It is not to be established by other means, but by manifest establishment, it establishes the absence of inherent existence of things, just as smoke establishes fire. What is meant by saying this? Non-apprehension is established by direct perception, and just as things are, the absence of inherent nature cannot be realized by direct perception, so what is the way in which this is established by direct perception? It is said that non-apprehension is established by seeing something other than what is incompatible with a pot, etc. Thus, in this way, non-apprehension is established by direct perception. It is said thus: by seeing a pot, the side that is empty is not seen, and this is regarded as a form of direct perception. Refuting it, it is the same, there are two ways. Saying that very way, for the pot, etc., which is to be refuted, even if there is a side to be known, how can it not be established if it does not exist? Just as from experiencing other visible things, it is certain that there are no visible things, so too, from experiencing other things, how can it not be established that there are no other things? It is said: both the debater and the answer are irrelevant, even if other visible things are experienced, it is not established that there are no other visible things. There is no meaning that has not been made an object of knowledge, therefore, if the visible things of one side are experienced, then the experience of the visible things of one side itself is indeed established by direct perception. Other than that, what establishes that there are no other visible things? It is not by knowledge seeing, because it is its own ultimate essence. Likewise, it is not by seeing by other means, because in fact there is no inherent nature, so there is no object of visible things itself. If by experiencing other definite knowledge, it can be established that there are no other things? If you ask this, then what is this so-called "definite"? If it is merely its own essence, then even if it is established, what good is it to what does not exist? If it is said that the absence of other visible things itself is the essence, that is not right, because its essence is merely the opposite of visible things. Other visible things are not the opposite of visible things. That is merely the absence of essence itself, and visible things are essence itself, so how is that the absence of other things? Or is that certainty itself a characteristic without difference? If that is the case, then for the difference, the action of direct perception does not exist, for it, as an object

Because it does not exist, it is not its object. Therefore, what is relied upon to give rise to the object is not dependent on whether other things exist or not, or on doubt, and this must be determined here. For what is not an object, there is not even a particle of movement, so when the self-nature of experience is determined, if one cannot perceive because of perceiving something else, or if non-existence cannot be established because of the existence of something else, how can that be? The so-called "force" refers to the function of valid cognition that establishes something without making it an object, and it cannot be admitted because it possesses valid cognition. So, if it is said that this must be stated, here it is said: The so-called "this absence of things" is merely the negation of other things, and therefore it is not the object of valid cognition. The so-called "the pot does not exist," this non-existence is not the ultimate of any thing. Therefore, since there is no self-nature, if it exists, nothing will arise, and because the nature of the cause is also like that, so for this, the nature of the cause is impossible, and likewise, from it, valid cognition is also a negation. Whether it is the ultimate truth or the conventional truth, the so-called valid cognition refers to what makes it clear. For something that has a certain self-nature, appearing in the self-nature of that thing will become the appearance itself. But for this, because there is no self-nature of things, so it is nothing, so by what is this made clear? Therefore, what is there to be measured in this? Therefore, just as there is no cause for this, there is also no valid cognition. So, how to establish "the pot does not exist" or "Isvara, the chief, and no-self"? Even if established, it is of no use. If it is said that it is established only through the limbs of need, or that even if it is not a limb it exists, because it has self-nature it is established, then this does not exist for the absence of things. Therefore, the existence that is suitable for establishing in that way, becomes the limb of need, or holds its own self-nature with its own self-nature, thereby generating valid cognition, those things exist in this pot. The mind is free from desire, or there are other worlds, and valid cognition can be taken as an object. Those things that do not exist, because they do not exist in the self-nature that exists as it is, and are not suitable for wanting to understand, so those things cannot be established in any way.
