It is a statement, but this is not realized through seeing. However, for the knowledge of conceptual thought, only the tree appears, and the nature opposite to it, the non-tree. We cannot bear to say that it is realized only by itself. How can it be endured? Because the nature of merely the tree and the non-tree, which have been made the object of manifestation. If conceptual thought can also realize the nature by just that much, then it will become an object to be established. This wrong view is difficult to teach, because the realization of what is called "tree" is perfected by its own basis through the gate of distinguishing non-trees. If this fault were to occur, then merely distinguishing would become a part of what is being realized. What is called "non-tree" is not merely the realization of distinguishing. If it is not so, then what is called "having hail" will not be realized by the particularity, because there, hail is only the unique nature. If it is said that it becomes ultimate by being connected with this, so it is not unique, then the tree is also distinguishing non-trees, because it is not unique, how can it be an object to be established? Like this, saying "this is not a tree" is also done because the other party wants to realize the distinction. For him, it is not that there is no realization of the meaning of the tree. Therefore, the realization of the distinction between tree and non-tree is the realization of the tree by distinguishing the non-tree. Then, will it become not distinguishing the non-tree? How can it not be distinguished? Because it is only the realization of what is opposite to it. Or, here the distinction of non-tree is not realized, will it become not realizing the distinction by just this much? If that is the case, then the statement "this is not a tree" will also not realize the distinction, because there is no distinction of non-tree. In the realization of distinction, not everything has to be distinguished, just like the particularity of the particular when realizing the particular. If that is the case, then what is called "tree" will be realized, because it would follow that it will be realized everywhere that "this is not a non-tree."

The explanation of how it contradicts this distinction has been completed, and even if it is acknowledged, it is said that there is no mutual indication in understanding it in this way. This is not an understanding of distinction, but because it is indicated in another way. Therefore, the knowledge called "understanding one" is established by "tree" and "non-tree," and it is explained as having different objects by "its" and so on. That is to say, the understander who can distinguish between that and non-that things dwells on what is called "mind holding one meaning," and can distinguish things because it has the characteristic difference of the object's opposite, and in order to be able to understand its difference, the sound is connected with the difference. Understanding the distinction between tree and non-tree means that in appearance, sound is established on the tree that deviates from non-tree. Therefore, what is said to appear as the cause of mind, and the power of distinguishing its cause, and being free from the burden of non-its cause due to the power of distinguishing non-its cause, and the power of appearance dwelling on the knowledge called "understanding one," seems to be the same as its own nature. In reality, although the term existing in the mind can be understood from sound, it is understood like a thing due to the confusion of understanding. The commentary is "they are" and so on. The explanation for this is like this: abiding in the knowledge of distinction, the object corresponding to the distinguishing consciousness becomes a different pleasing thing, and the sound is connected with things different from its cause. Explaining the nature of the connection is: "these are trees" and so on, after universally indicating. How is it indicated approximately? It is connected with it. By what is to be understood and what can be understood, sound is connected only in the meaning of what is understood, and not in other aspects. Therefore, indicating the object understood by the understander is following one's own understanding. This is what is said. Following the understanding of others is what the sutra itself says, "the mind exists in that thing." Therefore, especially the distinction between self and other appears as one.
