The prevention of distinguishing characteristics is consistent with both intentions. The explanation that it can be understood even when applying terms refers to seeing it that way at the time of designation. Saying this is to refute, it is not dissimilar, like this, for that which is solely established, what is the indication of proximity? Is this also a tree and also something else? Or is it only this and not something else, such a fault exists, if it is said that this is also, then merely focusing on the tree will not lead to entry. If it is said that it is only this, then at the time of establishing the tree, because it depends on the meaning that must be taken, and that is also the nature of the negation of non-tree, and one cannot negate without taking it, therefore grasping becomes mutually dependent. Therefore, how can the fault be dissimilar? If understanding a tree is not perfected without relying on grasping the other, then is this also a tree? Even if relying on grasping what is not a tree, grasping a tree does not rely on grasping what is not a tree, therefore it is not mutually dependent. In some cases, the meaning of the sound "this also" can be understood, like the sound of Aksha and others with multiple meanings. Whatever sound has the same meaning is "only this." If distinguishing characteristics, understanding a tree is a tree, then how can it be said that turning away from seeing is more excellent? Because the meaning of seeing itself has not reached perfection, how can one turn away from others? Therefore, how can this be a similar fault? Saying: If for the sound of turning away, there is a conceptualization of an object that other objects do not have, then even if saying that the object of such conceptualization is the elimination of others, it is pure, it cannot escape from the fault of mutual dependence. If it is not established by understanding the object of eliminating others, but it is said that only from inference is that nature established, then is there no fault of mutual dependence? Saying: The object of understanding is established through inference, this is like sophistry. If one understands turning away only through one's own understanding, then for this, through inference

What to do? If it is said to be "self-nature," then other than cognition, self-nature itself is the object of cognition. Since the object of inference is itself the object of negation, how can it be inferred by inference? Or, even fire is not hot, and it can be inferred. Then, according to the view of the generalists, even if the generality of wood and other things is not recognized, is it still the object of generality? It is acceptable not to recognize it by merely expressing it with the word "generality," because the self-nature of wood also exists in the generality. That which is contrary to non-wood is not endowed with the characteristics of wood. If it is said that two cognitions cannot be established, and that which has not been determined as an object is not certain, this is unreasonable. If it is said that the characteristic of wood, which is attributed as "this is wood," is empty of non-wood because it is contrary to non-wood, then that is its object. However, it is not so, because the dharma nature of things changes in that way, and what exists in cognition is not an object for cognition. Therefore, the so-called "cognition of wood" is different from non-cognition of wood, and its object is non-wood, so it is not contrary to non-wood. If it is not so, then the moment is also existent, so the cognition of the moment is also established. Therefore, this is merely the cognition of wood, and for this, there is nothing else or contrary to non-wood. Therefore, the negation that is being cognized will not become cognition if the boundary of negation is not cognized. Therefore, how can it be established without mutual dependence? The aforementioned aspect does not have this fault, because what is contrary to confusion is not other than that. Therefore, the blue itself, which abides in its own self-nature, becomes one with other objects due to the action of superimposition. Eliminating that, the initial distinct one is the object of the wisdom of cognition to eliminate. The negation that has no object is not applicable, because it undoubtedly holds the manifest thing. Therefore, when distinguishing there with the true meaning, faults such as mutual dependence will arise. The meaning of distinguishing with the meaning of negation is not the self-nature of cognition. Then, how to argue with others? Answer: Just as the teacher asserts, while not understanding the truth, refuting the statements of not marrying young women, etc.
