If there is no distinction, those cannot be understood as not holding trees, therefore they are mutually dependent. Explaining that itself is "at that time," that is, the time of distinction. In order to know trees and non-trees, in order to approach seeking the meaning of trees and non-trees. If someone seeks to separately recognize the self-nature of trees or non-trees, then knowing the uncommon self-nature of those is what is to be accomplished through distinction, therefore distinction has been promised, because that is its measure. Therefore, if there is no distinction, there is no knowledge of these two. In order to show that even if there is distinction, it will become incomprehensible because of mutual dependence, that is "that incomprehension is because of that." Like that, if distinction is promised, then after stating the same fault, in order to abandon the aspect of non-distinction, it is explained: Even if distinction is not understood, distinguishing trees from non-trees is distinguishing from that. Distinguishing it from others is also not completely abandoning that itself, where does that exist? Those who apply names from sound will not enter after completely abandoning non-trees. When distinguishing non-trees, it is combined with saying that it is the fruit of understanding. The sound of trees does not prevent those non-trees, therefore those who apply names from that will not enter after completely abandoning it. The reason for this is also explained, because in convention, non-trees are not obvious to those. This is said like this: Apart from distinction, there is no arrangement of sound for the uncommon self-nature of trees that is obvious to non-trees, therefore saying "bring a tree," how can one definitely understand trees after abandoning non-trees? For what is not completely abandoned and arranged, it is unreasonable to completely abandon from that, for example, this itself is like the difference between trees, shapa, etc. Therefore, not distinguishing is unreasonable. Explaining this itself is "the time of convention." Here, the opponent's promise of an argument empty of distinction itself will produce this fault, not from what argument.

It is not the case that there is also distinction. According to that, distinction is made later for the purpose of proof. Therefore, knowing the two, tree and non-tree, determined by self-reliant proof, is this a non-tree? Is this a tree? Because non-tree is distinguished for tree, and also distinction is made for non-tree. Therefore, even if there is distinction here, it will not become the fault of mutual dependence, so it is said, "However." Here, it is recited, "If it is not proof, it does not negate others." Ancient people abandoned it out of ignorance. It is not the case that it is unreasonable here, because those who say to eliminate the proof of the nature of distinction, it is because others have abandoned such intention. For distinction, two are realized, because there are negation and proof. For that very reason, it is said that the only negation, which has a function other than proof, is distinction. Saying that this is not a non-tree, negating the non-tree, and proving the tree, because this is the nature of distinction. Therefore, because two negations will become negating distinction, it is said, "If it is not proof, it does not negate others." Through distinction, everything is non-dual, therefore, these two are negated in this way. Like this, after eliminating the two proofs, showing the pure proof with one's own thought is, "Skillfully showing one in front." Without making distinction, only making proof, is the word called indication. Therefore, through "If those are not eliminated in the indication," it is said that whatever fault there is in not distinguishing, that does not exist. Because it is said that what is merely indicated is, even at the time of establishing names, only that will be recognized. Therefore, both distinction and non-distinction have faults. At what time, if it is recited, "If it negates others, it does not make proof," at that time it is also preventing distinction. It means that because the nature of negation and proof is distinction, it should be abandoned. For that very reason, according to the explanation of those who speak of universal things, it is not the case that saying a little through distinction.
