It is not the object of knowledge itself. Precisely because of this, in order to show that one consciousness is contradictory in the case of distinct entities, it is said: "Because of being distinct, therefore in them." The meaning of "cause" is the object. The explanation of "that" is "only it" and so on. In this way, for those who say that these objects of perception are the cause of one consciousness, because the object itself has been excluded, the object of the cause has been excluded, therefore it is said, "Even if there are many, they depend on one." Even if many things depend on one and can be recognized as not different, then the appearance of one assistant of things is called the cause of consciousness. In order to show this doubt that is being argued, it is said, "Because of being distinct." Because of being distinct, therefore it is not said that it cannot be produced by many. Just as the two of variegated and pot are not the cause of the consciousness of a cow because they are distinct, will the variegated and yellow also change? If someone says this, then there is no contradiction in producing a result through being distinct. However, for the former, there is no co-actor that produces that consciousness, while for these two, it is only existence. Therefore, separation from the co-actor is contradictory. If it is said that there is one common co-acting universal here, then in order to exclude it, it is said, "If that is the case, then." Through this, if the universal is a co-actor, then the statement that appearance is the cause is excluded by showing that there is no concomitance and contradiction. Its result itself, because it is the only certain one, because without it, it cannot be recognized. If something exists, then a result that did not exist before will arise, and if it does not exist, it will return, while other things will not regress even if they return, because it is recognized that it is produced by the mere gathering of co-acting causes. For it, if the characteristics of the universal and the self-characteristic are close to existence, then the resulting result, even if the appearance exists

Because it cannot be done. For that very reason, it cannot be said that knowledge arises solely from the general (སྤྱི་, Sanskrit: जाति, Roman transliteration: jāti, Chinese: kind), because it is impossible to demonstrate that only that exists without manifestation. Therefore, when the teacher realizes that the manifestation associated with the general is the cause, even if it is absent, it is said that it arises, which indicates that even without each of those manifestations, the general alone can produce it, because in the mind, those manifestations have no power. Temporarily, the consciousness that thinks 'this is a cow' does not exist if there is no general, because it does not exist in a horse. If it is said that even if there is a general, manifestation will arise even without it, then even without each manifestation, what exists will arise alone? For example, in the absence of variegation, only in the manifestation of yellow will the knowledge that 'this is a cow' arise. Therefore, if the object itself is the root of the cause, then even for the manifestations associated with the general, it is said that it does not exist, therefore: Because the mind does not grasp them. This is the connection. The explanation is: Now how is it? If there is no general, there will be no knowledge of a horse being a cow, because if there is a general, there will be variegation and so on. There is no fault here, because the collection of blue and yellow etc. is the cause, and that collection is the cause of eye consciousness. Even if each is removed from those that exist simultaneously, eye consciousness will not be non-existent, but considering that removing each also occurs, the collection cannot be the cause of eye consciousness. Similarly, in variegated things etc., when generating knowledge that undifferentiatedly thinks 'this is a cow', even if each of the general co-operators is absent, consciousness exists, therefore the power will not diminish. This is the debater's thought, and if so, then for their collection also, power is not non-existent, which becomes very relevant here. To eliminate this, it is said: Stating the inconsistencies, that is, stating blue etc. is not in accordance with the situation. Proving this is: Like this. When blue etc. each generate eye consciousness in their own way, they are considered to be the cause.
