are unrelated. The consciousness with its own characteristic object, such as knowing blue in a dream, where knowing blue in waking becomes confused, where one is confused, others do not become confused. Seeing a mirage is due to the experience of consciousness, but not because of the thing. If you ask how is confusion understood? It is said that the confusion is caused by the awakening of the habit of water. If even seeing a mirage, it is the awakening of the habit of water, then it will only become the conceptualization of water, and in no way will it become the conceptualization of a mirage. It is said that in order to show the difference, it is said to be unclear. Because one cannot directly grasp the difference between water and mirage. By what means does it become the conceptualization of a mirage? The direct perception that follows the state in which both are possible, the difference of distinction is not clear. Even so, how is it that only the habit of water is awakened? Isn't it just that habit that awakens? It is said that because of observing faults. Because one seeks water and does not grasp the difference of the mirage that is different from the image of water, one is attached to the possibility of water. Similarly, the object of a rope being perceived as a snake, a stump being perceived as a person, and so on, should also be understood. Therefore, from "therefore" to the end of "because there is no following," in that case, the general consciousness with the appearance of recognizing like that, etc., when confused, arises only from appearance. After establishing one's own tenet, in order to establish that others will also acknowledge this, it is said "others also." According to the view of the generalists, the mind that does not recognize the self-nature of a person does not only focus on the general. Therefore, it does not arise only from the general. The mind of the general is in the nature of mixing differences, but not in the nature of connecting different things to be non-different, because there is no recognition of thinking "that is this." Therefore, the mind of the general separates the general from its own characteristics, because it does not focus on it, when it recognizes that the appearance is non-different, the appearance also clings to non-different images.

It is not merely a general characteristic of becoming an object of activity. It distinguishes each from one. For the appearance of the two dharmas that are invisible, it is not possible to establish it on the one alone. Therefore, what is called "cow" becomes a consciousness that is excluded like a general characteristic, just like holding a stick, when one does not understand one's own basis, because one does not understand that the general characteristic and those that correspond to it are separate. How can it become a clear understanding that merely follows the general characteristic? Therefore, this holds the differences as non-different, and it is established as relying on it. The commentary is "others also." If it is thought that the knowledge called "cow" is a consciousness corresponding to it, and it needs to be distinguished like holding a plow, and there is also no object to be distinguished, then if a non-different consciousness focuses on the difference, this merely relies on the general characteristic, then there is no contradiction, is it? It is always said like that. Always, the knowledge arising from sound and direct perception are also like that. If what arises from sound has a general characteristic as its object, then direct perception can understand clearly. When both only understand the general characteristic, then at that time it will necessarily become not understanding clearly. Clarity is that each knows its own nature, there is no other, because the nature of the differentiated that is separated from the difference is not understood. Like this, when it is called "this cow is speckled," that will also become like that, because for that, it is also through the general characteristic of the speckled itself that it is understood clearly. What is called "this" is also always merely following. Therefore, if the consciousness of difference is the ultimate of difference, then it is merely not understanding the contradiction. If it is the ultimate that possesses difference, then it will merely become the basis of non-difference of differences, because for this called "cow," there is no understanding of other clear aspects. The sutra itself explains: If the consciousness is called "this." If one understands, this fault will occur; if one does not understand, what fault is there? At that time it was said like this. If the knowledge called "cow" focuses on the general characteristic, if one does not understand the clarity, then at any time what corresponds to the general characteristic will not necessarily determine the connection with the general characteristic because of the occasion. This, in one's own school, whatever establishes the clarity corresponding to the general characteristic
