Since recognizing something similar to water in the grass is a mistake, if it is not the general reason for water, then in any case, it is not appropriate not to rely on the general. The vase, too, because of recognizing it in that way, would become the fault of admitting it to be such a thing. Therefore, if it is certain that only mirages are considered water, ropes are mistaken for snakes, and fish glue is reversed and considered silver, then this must be based on some self-nature of the general. If it were not for the general, things would not produce such knowledge. Therefore, what is the basis for determining this kind of error? Is it the nature of water and mirages, or the nature of ropes and snakes? What does another general do for this? Because this itself is the form of the treatise, for the time being, without explaining how the general is recognized, what is that? If the mirage itself had water, then it would become the fault of not being reversed. Even if it is a mistake, it cannot be established as holding the general, so it is said that if it is not a true aspect, it is shown by refutations and answers, because there is no other aspect. Superimposition is superimposing something else onto something else. Its object is itself, because consciousness is not more conscious than the dharma that consciousness transforms into. Therefore, the consciousness of water superimposes the mirage as unreal water, because water itself is the object, so this is not a general reason, because it is not there. Although because it is not there, water itself is not the reason for considering the mirage as water, however, the bright support of water and mirages, etc., what other general is there, such as shaking and brightness itself, from which the error of the characteristic of superimposition arises? If it were not so, it would become too extreme. If there exists holding the general, etc., in order to welcome and dispel that doubt, it is said that the result is the same. Just as those who make the meaning of the brightness of water definite make the same understanding of water, so too, water and mirages, etc., also depend on what

When a single realization becomes the object of support, then for other things that appear as ignorance, relying on the aspects related to it, the appearance of other kinds will be attached, which does not mean that there are some definite cognitions on the same thing. If the thing itself is the very reason for mistaking mirages for water, then wouldn't there be perpetual delusion? The answer is: This is like water in Tīvra. If Krotha and others also generate a common realization by their very nature, then yogis will also have that realization. So, how is this? The answer is: When delusion arises from its own cause, the object must change, and that is called delusion caused by the object. For example, a person with blurred vision mistakes the moon for two, is that caused by the moon? If there is no blurred vision, it will not happen. Here too, due to the habitual tendencies of conceptual thought, when mirages and other things change due to the faults of the mind, conceptual thought only connects the meaning, but cannot leave the habitual tendencies of conceptual thought on the meaning, because it is itself the cause of conceptual thought. Therefore, like this, mistaking mirages for water is proven to be the cause of the thing itself, and according to the specific situation, the common intention is also mentioned. This proves the very nature of false conceptual thought, and the cause of the thing itself, so the tenet is established that "cognition and other things are the only function." Doing the same thing is also recognized by the other party, and since a common cognition arises from that very thing, then what is the use of other commonalities? If there is a false cognition, then it will become the root cause of arising dependent on the respective definite objects. So, how is it determined that this is a false cognition? If the thing itself is not a conceptual thought that exists in the way of knowing the essence of the thing as it is, then it needs to rely on recognizing its own characteristics to argue, which is called "if the thing exists as it is." If it is only cognition, that is, the only one, then other cows are also only cognizing cows, aren't they? The answer is: "Having unconfused differences" is mentioned, that is, abandoning the nature of recognition. The so-called "from the power of ignorance" is the answer. Ignorance is conceptual thought.
