Faith also becomes a component of dharma and entities possessing dharma, for example, just like saying "this is fire" here. Its nature as the entity of dharma and entities possessing dharma is explained as establishing dharma and entities possessing dharma. Likewise, the "suchness" that has not been examined for its meaning is related to "merely suchness." Similarly, whatever difference and non-difference is the seed of reversal, that "merely suchness" says that grasping things as one and many is mistaken, and so on, these statements are the statements of the ultimate meaning. Dappled and yellowish colors are mixed by the cow itself, and even in one sense, dappled and cow are different, because they do not exist in the self-nature of things. How is it? In the sense of reason, it is the word "and." Now, explaining why that wisdom is not fully applied to all things, that is "because of the general." The difference between the general and the particular, this difference is in the sense of wisdom. How is it? As it is said, just on that. Because just on that, all the distinctions of dharma are imputed, therefore, some of the distinctions of dharma follow along and some are reversed, so they become various kinds of general and particular. If it is merely wisdom and not meaning, how is it? As it is said, in the cognition of what is to be established and what establishes. Because the distinctions of dharma exist in the cognition of what is to be established and what establishes. If it does indeed exist in meaning, then, in that case, in the cognition of what is to be established and what establishes, there would be seeing the existence of things, therefore it would not become the cognition of what is to be established and what establishes. Therefore, because seeing things disappears, this is merely the object of wisdom. How can this action be expressed only in wisdom? Because Master Dignāga has promised to grasp the self-characteristic of the cow, which has the distinction of reversal. Then, what is said, "that is not," is saying: the particular is the self-characteristic, the general and the similar, that is, one should not grasp the particular self-characteristic that has been made into the distinction of reversal. How is it? It is explained: that is not to be grasped as the self-nature of the general and the particular, and so on. And why is that?

It is said that a single thing cannot have many different characteristics. Therefore, it is said that "one's own nature is not the object of sound, nor is it the object of discrimination," which is called "its own nature." Therefore, in this way, the self-nature of things is unique, and the ultimate of these various distinctions, such as these, explains that things are opponents with provable objects, with different meanings. And this is only the nature of negating superimpositions. For that meaning, the object of the nature of negation itself is actually not, but it depends on additional attachments. Even if it is not the object of things, because the establishment will not be contradictory, the object of eliminating all dependencies and fully possessing the elimination of others is the establishment. Now, in order to establish it in other ways as well, it is stated in connection with the context, "Why again?" This is debated, that is, "Thus knowing that, it is neither sound nor consciousness." Here, through the difference of "that generality and particularity," it is explained by "in the realm of intelligence" that that (generality and particularity) is the object of sound and discrimination, but not its own nature. When abiding in this, its object is refuted and examined. The reason for non-combination is explained, that is, "because." The marked sound with differences is expressed. It is explained that it is the word "can be combined with it," because it is knowable. It is said in this way that if sounds enter into meaning by virtue of the nature of things, then they will change from their own nature, just like the eyes and so on. When they enter depending on seeing there, they will not enter their own nature. Even if there is a connection with things, for names, their entry depends on seeing, and if there is no connection, then for names, seeing itself will become a mark, and there is no dispute about depending on seeing. If only one's own nature is marked, will it not only be combined with one's own nature? If not, how can it not be combined with it? In order to welcome this question, the necessity of the mark is explained.
