Depending on this. Due to the power of beginningless habitual tendencies, such a mind arises, and this is how it abides. The so-called "one" is the general nature. The so-called "returning from many" is the meaning of the basis of the same foundation. Sounds and other objects are made by the mind, and this is also due to the power of appearing in the mind, that is, due to the power of appearing in the mind. Because such a nature appears in the mind, it is said that sounds and other objects are made by the power of the mind's appearance. Appearing in the mind is also merely the appearance of the mind, so becoming such a meaning is said to be merely the appearance of the mind. If such a meaning is merely the appearance of the mind, then how can it be said that there is not the slightest generality? This is because it is said that it does not depend on the reality of external objects. If there is some such external object, then similarly, because the mind also appears in that way, just like blue and so on, the real existence of generality would be established. But this is not the case, so it is reasonable to say that there is no generality. If the mind follows such an existing external object, then it would become the mind seeing such an external object. Even if there is no external object, would such a mind itself become a generality? Therefore, it is said, "Determined as its thing." The so-called "its" refers to grasping the reality of the external object that is spoken of. The appearance of the mind is determined as the reality of the external object, which means that this form of knowledge is also particularly attached to the reality of things. It is said in this way that if it becomes one with others and becomes an external nature, or many and so on abide in their own nature, just like this nature of understanding, then it would become a generality, but this is not the case. Because it is determined as this meaning itself, it is determined that this is the nature of the dharmas of things, and the appearance of the mind does not make them become like that. Therefore, generality is meaningless. All of this is the nature of the returning generality, so it is briefly said. Then, how can there be no generality and things?

Faith is the general cause, and the appearance of mind, the meaning of sound and the very nature of generality and meaninglessness will be elaborated on below. Just as this is the realm of sounds, so too is it of discriminations, as it is said, "that which is experienced," and so on. Or, connect by making sounds the realm of discriminations. That, refers to grasping the reality of external objects. Therefore, the meaning is that this is the discrimination that arises from the habit of experiencing external objects. Previously, it relied on beginningless habits, but the habit of experiencing has a beginning, so it can be said that discriminations arise from habit itself. Among them, the habit of discrimination only cognizes phenomena that appear as discriminations, such as the general, etc., while cognizing other and different things is through the habit of experiencing. Experiencing is also merely the nature of cognizing the meaning of not being blue, so discrimination is the cause of cognizing the meaning of not being blue. Therefore, here, like direct perception, non-direct perception also becomes the basis of habit, for example, cognizing two moons in discrimination as two moons, or like the knowledge of a dream when an object seen in a dream becomes a discrimination. Thus, if a previously non-existent nature can be cognized from other causes, then at that time it will also become a cause of placing habit, for example, like the discriminations of those who fully cognize things, such as Ishvara, etc. They say, where does such a habit come from? It is said to come from following the root of the mark of wrong speculation. Discrimination is not like the knowledge of blue, etc., or like the knowledge of two moons, etc., it is not cognizing what should be cognized that was not there before, but like the direct perception of a previously non-existent object appearing, or like what is produced by appearance, it is cognized by following the mark of such a dharma of things.
