Because the realization of the essence is not accomplished, it is only the realization of other things. If it is realized, then because both are realized, it becomes the connection of difference and the object with difference. In that case, how can realization itself depend on other valid cognitions? Therefore, if one doubts that even connecting other qualities does not depend on other valid cognitions, it is said, "Like the appearance of silver on a conch shell." For example, just as the appearance of silver is connected due to the reason of illusion on a conch shell. Just like difference and the object with difference, the nature of the conch shell being realized is not connected with the appearance of silver, and not realizing it is also not not realizing the nature of silver. Even if that realization is an object like a mote of dust, it is the very imputation of the appearance of silver that has become a conch shell, because it appears to follow the nature of the conch shell. If many appearances, such as momentariness, are made into the nature by a realization that is solely devoted to distinguishing other entities, then when the function of experiencing objects such as momentariness is diminished, it is reasonable to impute. Otherwise, it is not imputing another nature to the entity that is clear in the nature of being present, because that would entail being permanent. It is not possible to impute the appearance of silver to the experience of a conch shell, because one's own appearance is contradictory, so there is no realization of contradiction in appearance. If it is not like that, then the arising of the harmer will not be established. Although the appearance of non-momentariness is directly contradictory, it is only reasonable because there is no contradiction since it is only realizing the nature of the object. Therefore, if one doubts how a conch shell is imputed as silver, it is said, "From seeing similar forms." Depending on the thought of the cognizer. How is the nature of silver? The conch shell is also like that, so it is said to be a similar phenomenon, just like a bull and a cow. Because it is seen. This is what is said, because of similar phenomena such as whiteness, whatever the nature of the conch shell is, so is silver, just as two vases have appearances such as wide bellies, or tall people and humans have the appearance of standing upright.

It is so. The direct perception that arises merely following that aspect, because it does not apprehend the aspect that differentiates it from the aspect of silver, it is reasonable to assume it to be silver. It is like assuming a person because the uncommon characteristic of a high pole is not apprehended. If the differentiating aspect is apprehended, then misapprehension is simply impossible. If there is no cause for confusion, then merely apprehending the nature that is present in both will lead to doubt, just as apprehending only the uprightness leads to doubt about whether it is a high pole or a person. In the case of a fish bladder, too, definitely apprehending the single nature of existence is like confusion. If the differentiating aspect is not apprehended, how is it known? Because it is not known. If it appears as such, then it would follow that it is known, which is unreasonable. Then, how is it explained that "the self-nature of the object is one," and so on? Any phenomenon that is examined by valid cognitions based on any nature, when that is apprehended, it is impossible not to apprehend it, because it has been shown that apprehending sound, etc., is like apprehending momentariness, etc., therefore it is said so. It is not impossible to be similar in parts, it is not like that. Its manifestation is also similarity itself. The explanation is "if," etc. Like the Sutra Pitaka, it is connected to the previous text, even for those who see the suchness of all things, other qualities should not be applied. If the nature is contradictory to another nature, how can that be applied to the nature that is clearly present in front? Therefore, it is said, "by the cause of confusion." In order to show its power, the distinction taken is, "it has become an obstacle to such certainty." The very nature of appearance is not possible to be understood in a reversed way. Therefore, the causes of confusion themselves do not become causes of confusion. The cause of confusion that has become an obstacle to certainty is what makes the appearing phenomenon reach its limit, therefore, it is only possible to have doubt or confusion about other phenomena. What are those causes? It is said that the phenomena are not different. Therefore, since the direct perception has opened the opportunity for confusion in this way, how do the causes of confusion, etc., themselves become causes?
