Because it depends on the power of others, if it exists, then existence itself is also a result. Therefore, if one recognizes the prior non-existence of something with a cause, and takes that as a sign of its existence, then at that time, it will be recognized as its result. Even without it, it can be recognized through the non-manifestation of its own nature, because it exists later. If there are contradictory manifestations, etc., then at that time also, it is because it does not exist. Therefore, recognizing prior non-existence from the non-manifestation of its own nature, and recognizing existence through having a cause, it is said that through valid cognition, one can fully recognize the objects of cause and effect that are cognized. This is called "becoming its characteristic." "Its" refers to the object of cognition, that is, whatever becomes that characteristic. This is a synonym for "becoming the characteristic of the object of cognition." Becoming like that, from non-manifestation, if fire or anything else manifests, then whatever manifests is its result. Becoming the characteristic of manifestation, from non-manifestation, whatever manifestation manifests, that manifestation is the pure result. Here, the dharma of the result is shown as the nature to be measured by valid cognition, but not as its own essence. Becoming the characteristic of manifestation, through non-manifestation, it is recognized as not being existence itself. Non-existence is because if something else manifests, then it exists because of the manifestation. The essence of the result is also that, as has already been shown. As long as the nature of this kind is not explained, it is not possible to establish valid cognition of this kind. So, why is this placed here? In short, to show that by stating valid cognition, the result of emptiness will induce the valid cognition of dharma. In this way, when establishing others as the shown result, just as valid cognition induces the object to be measured, so too does the object to be measured induce valid cognition. All beings rely on it, because it previously existed, so whatever becomes without difference, here, merely the previous existence itself is not the cause. However, through recognizing the prior non-existence itself, whatever has not previously arisen, if it exists, then whatever existence arises from it, and that is also its cause. This is not arbitrary either, because an established object being associated with some things and separated from others is arbitrary.

Transformation. If it is said that non-existence itself arises arbitrarily, that is impossible. If it is established by other things, then the very seeing of existence becomes the means of its establishment. This is something that did not exist before, and if it exists, then existence is certain. Therefore, this one is the producer, and the other is the produced, so what arbitrariness is there in this? If all things that can be seen arise from the invisible, then because of being visible, there is no difference. No, even if things other than fire existed from the beginning, it is because the smoke that exists in that place is not seen. No, because from the moment when smoke arises, the things that exist before or after do not exist. Because for momentary formations, there is no argument about existing at other times. The gods were so happy that they did not know the occasion. For this, the successive results of the continuity of things themselves, such as the second moment, etc., are established by the moment itself, with the previous moment and the things to be produced and the things that produce. It is not produced from succession and reversal. Are pots and so on related to the three times, the former stopping naturally by itself and the latter not being produced, or are they from the nature of non-destruction? To this, because the measure for establishing the momentariness has been shown, succession is established because the latter is produced after the latter. It is not because of non-destruction, but because the latter is produced, that is also without cause, or for things that are succeeding, it does not conform to causes other than the cause of non-confusion, therefore, such things are approached by things that were produced before. This distinction exists where there are authors of other continuities. If the continuum does not create anything alone, because it is not simultaneous. Nor is it to be created by one, because it is not a gradual multiplicity. Yes, the continuum of potters and so on, from which moment of their own continuum is close to destruction, from that arise pots and so on, similarly appearing established, therefore the continuum of clay, wheel, stick and potter and so on.
