I am for the sake of characteristics! Although it appears as something to be particularly clung to, the external itself is without reason, like hairs seen by someone with cataracts, it is actually internal hair. Those with ability do not understand, one understands oneself, therefore that is understanding. This is the meaning explained by the reasoning of "The object-possessor does not understand, one knows oneself, therefore that is knowledge." It is only to indicate this very nature of knowledge that it is said to be "like reversal." "Not the self of meaning" means that because it is the meaning to be sought, it is meaning, it is not other than knowledge. So what is it? It is only the image of knowledge, because it is not common. If it is said that because it is the object of clinging that appears as the self-nature of the external, it is a delusion, why is this? It is said to arise from habit. "That and things are not" means knowable. "Non-things" are not knowable. "That" refers to the knowable to be clung to or the image of knowledge. The object of the external, which has the power of great function, is function. That which has meaning is that which has the meaning of understanding function. Eliminating others, such as clinging, is because it is only for function. In order to show that there is no fault in calling the image of knowledge knowable, it is said to be "with sound as the meaning division." The elimination of others that is particularly clung to is that which follows patterns and so on, but it is not the image of knowledge or the function of the knowable, because there is no connection, so it is explained as "sound that follows." "Because it is different from mind" means that, like mind, it is because there is no connection. If asked, why will it not become meaning without difference? The answer is, "By seeing habit" is said. Therefore, "things" refers to the knowable, it is not internal, nor is it something that can be called external. If the superimposition arising from the image of knowledge is knowledge, but if it is not meaning, then it is ultimate for meaning, how can it be said to be ultimate for it? The answer is, that thing is the meaning of the image of knowledge. Superimposition is manifest clinging, and by understanding it, that which is eliminated from other images is function. The knower is because of meaning, that is, function.

The word "nyid" is said to express the meaning of certainty. The commentary should also be explained in the same way. If someone says, why isn't it necessary to ascertain the general object? The answer is, "through the knowledge of sound," meaning that if it is a cognition that is not related to the universal concept, just like cognizing a pillar, it is not a subject with cognition, and it is not false, and it also arises from sound. Even if the universal concept is cognized through the difference of function, it will become a false conceptual thought. The word "nyid" means certainty. Some say that therefore, even if it acknowledges the universal concept in that way, it only expresses the object of excluding others through the nature of the imputed function. And the word "nyid" makes one realize that it only appears as the previous object of excluding others, and so on. For this, only the erroneous appearance is the object of excluding others, and there is no meaning of conceptual thought. That which is not an object of things is not an object of universal concepts. "Like the form of things" means that it is not merely reaching the end of the universal concept, but it is not its form. In this way, only the absence of appearance causes harm. "The other aspect" refers to the aspect of merely reaching the end of the universal concept. "It, through the cognition of imputed things" indicates that the nature of conceptual thought is to combine function with a nature different from others. Or, "the image of conceptual thought" refers to the exclusion of others in the nature of conceptual thought, which is the imputation of function, and this itself has the meaning of cognition. If it is said "by one's own nature," etc., it is only in specific circumstances that a comprehensive analysis is made. "To be attached by one's own desire" indicates that it is only established as the object of that name. To call other things by other names is a confusion of categories. "For this" refers to fish glue. "To impute the nature as other things, such as silver" refers to the desire of others. "Because it is other knowledge" means because it is other knowledge. "It" refers to other knowledge. "Its nature" refers to the particularly imputed silver, and so on. That's how it is.
