If the object of focus is reversed, then the pervasive object will also be reversed, but it is not merely the thing itself, because things without an object of focus also exist. Therefore, that which does not focus on self is not non-focus, that is its meaning. If it is not certain that there is no self in things like a pot, then there is no certainty in the dissimilar aspect, and there is no certainty in the return from the dissimilar aspect, such as the return of life, etc. This shows that it is not pervasive with the dissimilar aspect, i.e., the absence of self, which is called "not knowing the return." Because the non-existence of the absence of self, which cannot be determined as non-existent, exists, if the non-existent things like life, etc., do not return, it will not become pervasive. Therefore, life, etc., which has that nature, is pervasive. Its non-existence will also become the non-existence of self. Its non-existence is the non-existence of the non-existence of self, life, etc., i.e., for life, etc., this is what is in the commentary. What is to be expressed is, how can life, etc., be pervaded by the return of non-existence? "What" refers to self. "What returns" refers to the return of life, etc. "It returns" refers to that particular return. "Return" refers to life, etc. "It" refers to self. "The return of the return" is because the non-existence of the non-existence exists, which shows that it is impossible for the nature of the thing to be pervaded and the other thing, i.e., the uncertainty of self, which is called "because the return of self is not established." If there is no focus on self on a pot, therefore it cannot be established as non-existent, if it is said that it will become existent, the answer is "life, etc." In some cases, what is seen is determined as existence and non-existence by seeing and what is seen, such as life, etc. But self is not like that, because it is not seen, and experience harms the present cognition of it. Isn't the existence and non-existence of life, etc., recognized as the existence and non-existence of self on the body and the pot? Isn't it recognized through seeing and not seeing? If you think so, then the existence and non-existence of life, etc., is to explain that through cause, the existence and non-existence of wisdom, etc., is recognized, but not self, so it says "what cause."

Moreover, it is also reasonable in other aspects. Saying "Because there is no life etc., therefore it is a different dharma," the absence of life etc. is because of the difference in dharma. Saying "Having self" means it will become a different dharma. If the body is without self, it will become like a pot, becoming without life etc. If you think like this, in order to show that you do not want to become this result, it is said "If slightly," saying "also different" means the body is different from the pot. Because it has wisdom etc., so there is a slight similarity in dharma, because there is similarity in dharma in terms of no-self. Saying "That itself" means not having life etc. Because it is measurable, if like the body, the pot etc. become having self, then these pots etc. are not without self, because it will become without measurability, this is the meaning. Like the son of a barren woman etc., it is separated from the knowable nature of the dissimilar side, separated from measurability, and also not present in the similar side, because there is no that, so it is changeable like life etc. In order to show that even if you do not want to, you cannot abandon the reason established by valid cognition, so it is said "If you do not want to." Is the reason established by valid cognition not also to be abandoned, because it will destroy its own lineage? Therefore, some say that it is precisely because of hope that it can be determined, for this statement, it is necessary to determine the distinction between real and unreal. Even if thorns etc. are established by valid cognition as to be abandoned, but because of hope they are abandoned, while things like self etc. that should be accepted are not like this, if that is the case, we abandon self etc., and you also because you have abandoned no-self, so it cannot be determined, because there is no power of valid cognition, this is the meaning. Add "Because of hope, real and unreal are abandoned." There is no non-confusion, it is confusion itself. Saying "Other itself" refers to memory and desire etc. If there is no difference between the pot and the body in terms of no-self, then how does life etc. come about? For this statement, distinguish between life and eyes. Exhalation and inhalation, because there is no independent effort, then where does it come from? Life etc. arise from effort.
