That is refutation. The term "however" refers to thinking that even though there is no direct perception, it is such an inference. The statement "also" indicates that inference is also common, meaning even in reversal, it is common. The term "not" means because it is contrary to its absence. The term "how" refers to others. The response to the contradiction is "one and the same." If that is the case, how is inference as a commonality worldly? The answer to this is "similar." The very meaning of uncommonness is direct perception. To show that it is easy to understand from terms such as "Have you also seen this?", it is said, "Here is." The term "this also" means that only the nature of knowledge is considered common, not others. To show this, it is said, "They are not confused." For example, it is considered a commonality. These refer to those who see through the confusion of mantras and the like. The word "also" in "small also large" indicates how large is also seen as small, because of the commonality, it is seen in the same way. To show that other than the aspect of what is grasped is not what is grasped, and it is also not the aspect of what is grasped and not grasped, it is said, "Likewise, this is." Therefore, other than that commonality is uncommonness. That is, not seeing the commonality. Is mere self-awareness not awareness? Without signs and the like, it is not inference. To refute this, "others" is mentioned. Inference arises from non-apprehension. Is the sign accepted by others not fabricated by thought? How can it be a means of proof for some? To this, the answer is "or," meaning that because what is done by thought itself is non-deceptive, it is real. What is awareness? How is it non-different? The other is the external. Doesn't inference make it appear different by establishing it as its own nature? To refute this, "inference also" is mentioned. If it establishes non-difference to others, then it has the same characteristics for itself.

This is the meaning of "thus." If it is said "thus," just as with an inference that does not rely on an object, this is also a distinction of what is manifestly accepted. To show that what is manifestly accepted is merely one's own intelligence, this is "that also." To posit valid cognition and result, etc., as arising solely from the habitual tendencies of manifest acceptance is excessive, so if it is said like that, this is "how then?" To show the distinction between the function of seeing and the following of the other, this is called "the apprehended and the apprehender." How it appears to follow is because it does not go beyond the conceptualization that follows the seer. The apprehended and the intelligence, the intelligence is the nature of what is to be measured, etc. Abiding is posited by way of distinction, that is, for the apprehended, etc., that are shown by conceptualization, the conceptualization of what is to be measured, etc., is also separate from that, and therefore it is not excessive. To show the distinction of reversal, this is called "that very nature," i.e., blue, etc. "To the other" refers to the apprehender in relation to the other. "In name," this is from manifest acceptance. "Non-existent," that is, because of obtaining non-existence, that whose nature is non-existent, for that it is existent, but not for the existent, because it is existent by itself. "Grasping the non-existent" is because it is not the meaning of the root of the word. "Common," etc., refers to the common valid cognition. "Remainder" refers to the non-non-existent. "I have seen this," holding it in this way, is the sentient being who recognizes what was seen before not me? The transformation of its faculties, etc., is knowledge in order to know this, and what is done by it is also the establishment of the object nearby, as well as experience and realization, etc. The object is also that which is the nature of what is realized by the consciousness that grasps external objects, and the object of this is also determined by the power of ignorance, so if it is said like that, this is "if." Because it is different from consciousness itself, it is not correct to apply terminology in that way, this is its meaning. Although consciousness itself is a distinction of blue, etc., because it is different from what is not it, it is clung to as one, because it is the object of direct perception, it is shown not to be other, it is like that.
