Merely doing so would itself become contrary to reason. What is shown is not to describe the self-nature of knowledge, but: Furthermore, the so-called conventional measure, that is, "measure arises from convention." This shows that the self-nature of measure is established from convention. If it were not so, then describing it would become meaningless. Therefore, from the description itself, measure is different from self-nature. What it shows is that self-nature is being recognized and is related to the self-nature of knowledge that possesses the dharma. The other meaning is that it is not dominant. Next, the second ascertainment is shown: For example, if the so-called measure, by which the knowledge that immediately experiences the function, is related to this itself is the measure, which is established from the conceptualization called "name." If someone does not have it, he would think, how can it be established from name? Therefore, "merely name" is mentioned, that is, merely name, completely established through the conceptualization related to function, arising is based on the inference arising from the sign of seeing something similar to it. Establishment is related to function, and should be connected to entering based on the measurable. The so-called "this is it" is showing the self-nature of measure, and the so-called "through seeing" is showing the measurable, that is, if what appears to the eye consciousness, aiming at the past thing that acts as a function, and inferring that thing in that place, then it becomes the object of entry. If it is thought that it enters by being established by recognizing the function of appearance, that is unreasonable. What then? Because it is determined that what is seen is what should be encountered, therefore it enters. However, by following the action of seeing, by distinguishing through differentiation, the probandum and the probans are stated. Even so, seeing is the ultimate result of self-nature, therefore it itself is not the probans, the measure to be recognized through it is the probandum.

Now, thinking it is your knowledge, this is called "if by seeing." Also, it is called "because in terms of expression, it is one." If again by seeing, even if it cannot prove it, or cannot understand the other, but merely the habit arising from acting together with seeing, just like fire and smoke, is able to understand that it is concomitant and contradictory. That itself is what proves it, because it is the prover of the same kind as it, or because relying on reasons such as being in the same place as it, the one who applies the expression thinks it is the same as it. With his thought, he says that what is seen is the very thing to be obtained. The object of mere conceptualization of the logician is that which arises from concomitance and contradiction, which proves it. Moreover, it also obstructs the limbs, etc., examined by the opponent. Wherever there is mere conceptualization devoid of such reasons, just like saying that heaven is obtained from the fire sacrifice, that is not a valid cognition, that is its meaning. If direct perception, etc., appear as valid cognitions and experience their own nature, then is not experiencing the function specially shown from the conceptualizations of knowledge, etc.? That is also occasional, so it is impossible from mere conceptualization. To that which appears as valid cognition through pervasion, also because it does not exist, it is thought to be without distinction, thus it is said: if it is to be known by the very act of obtaining the function. Is not the very act of obtaining valid cognition the act of knowing? If it is thought how it is the agent itself, because if there is no function, there is no existence, so it is thought that if there is no function, it is non-arising, if so, it is also appropriate to say the result of the function, how is it the agent of the function? Because the result that will undoubtedly arise is the cause itself, there is no fault. Therefore, through understanding that it does not arise without function, or through the intention that the very absence of function is also. There is no distinction between the knower and the functioner.
