Therefore, the grasping of knowledge is merely understanding its cause. This is what is called. Regarding this, someone thinks that it will not disappear even in memory. In terms of meaning, this is called memory. For memory, only experience has power, because it is related to the habit and subsequent of experience. This is its meaning. The memory that arises from the power of experience only clings to the object of its action, not to the previous ones, etc. This is because it is grasped by experience. Therefore, what is shown is "by the previous experience." Therefore, in order to show that the previous ones, etc., are understood by the conceptual thought that arises from beginningless habits, this is called "manifesting the past." Merely through these, the view that the following of the previous and subsequent is one entity is eliminated. Now, in order to eliminate the view that the identity existing in the previous and subsequent is not reliable, what is shown is "however, arising and ceasing." In order to show the relationship of this itself, this is called "when it is destroyed." What exists, that is, what has arising, will also not be destroyed, because complete decay is contradictory. For the stability and arising of what was previously understood, it is only impossible to show through the direct perception of approaching the object, this is called "for stability also." "The incidental of the path" refers to By showing the path, the fourth form of preventing incidentally. This is showing the essence of such renunciation. The so-called "already shown" refers to showing it through "its harm is seeing no-self, which is contradictory." In order to destroy the attachment caused by grasping at self and what belongs to self, what is shown is "the place of transformation is transformed from being accustomed to seeing no-self." Someone thinks that even if being accustomed to grasping at self and what belongs to self is merely transformed into self, but it is contradictory to no-self. Similarly, even if this is transformed into self, it will only contradict clinging to self, etc. Then, how is it transformed? Because there is no difference in contradiction. Therefore, thinking "even if transformed into self" refers to the faults of the path, that is, the arising of clinging to self, etc., is like the path that is transformed into the nature of faults. Having no power means that clinging to self, etc., is not pervasive.

Furthermore, if the path is the opposite of this, then having a path will lead to faults, which is unreasonable. The opposite refers to virtues having shortcomings and being harmed. Virtues refer to the realization of no-self. Because it is the nature of things, it is the very realm of things themselves. Faults refer to clinging to self and so on. Clinging to self and so on is also consciousness, because it arises from beginningless habits, so it has a cause. Isn't it different from the object-cause of realizing no-self? If there is no difference between the object and the dominating cause, then why is one harmful and the other, even with a cause, is not? The question is: How is it? Showing the difference is that the dharma of consciousness holding an object is its nature, because it is not what is harmed. Like a fishhook catching something, even if separated from the object, the cause of holding still exists, but like the knowledge of silver, it arises and then disappears, but this nature is not like that. Why is it? How does it exist and hold? It will be explained that, because of what? This meaning should also be connected. This also shows the reason why what consciousness possesses is not what is harmed. It also shows what the object possesses, that is, it is the place of arising of consciousness. It is the same for delusion, so the distinction is made that what exists, that is, its own, that is, its own nature, because it is coarse. Even if it is the producer of delusion, it is not the producer of its own nature. The word "also" gathers the considerations for the reasons that consciousness possesses. The word "is" means "because of what." There are also two reasons for realizing no-self, so showing only the nature is, this word "also" should be observed. In the explanation, one should also only connect such sending. It shows that only clinging, which is far from these two reasons, is what is harmed, not the nature, and should be connected with "the other is its nature." The so-called "other cause" shows that the reason that the object possesses does not exist.
