DTG180 0001.Commentary on the Ornament of Valid Cognition.g2.0f

If so, it also cannot change gradually, because there is no dependence. For the proponents of karma, it is made from something other than that, and there are other dependencies, therefore there is no fault. Therefore, the causes of various sentient beings—the arising dharmas themselves—should not be regarded as differences in ability, because, if it is admitted that wisdom and non-forgetting intelligence, etc., arise in the beginning without depending on their own kind, then, just as the perfection of having wisdom and non-forgetting intelligence, etc., which arises in the beginning, does not depend on its own kind, what is the reason for the change from something other than that? Because it does not thoroughly show that the arising things that arise from ignorance and those that arise from habituation are also different. This aspect is also non-existent, because its production is seen to depend on habituation. What is seen is its ability, not the ability of arising, because what arises from others, like smoke on a mountain, there is no contradiction in seeing it on that. The perfection with special characteristics before the pot comes into contact with fire is not like that, because blue and red, etc., clearly and completely appear, this is related to the scripture. Or, the non-difference or perfection of the elements, or perfection is also without difference. Because there is no difference, the perfection corresponding to the object, etc., is the same as lumps of earth and walls, etc., becoming one entity of various things, but not becoming the various things themselves, this is its meaning. "Although the senses are harmed individually," the verse "When taking birth completely," this statement is directed to it by explaining it. Now we will explain its commentary, for it, the change produced by the pot coming into contact with fire is not produced only from it, because it is seen to be produced from the potter. The senses are the objects of transformation of the mind, if the mind is clear, then the senses are also clear, if it is reversed, then it is also reversed, and it is not seen to be produced from others. Therefore, it should be known that it is produced from it. The change made by fire to the pot, etc., is only

Therefore, it is not appropriate to use metaphors as examples. Because the first arising sense faculty (དབང་པོ།), is also not seen as arising from the transformation of mind. It is also not correct to say "deluded in direction." If that were the case, it would not become a situation where nothing is certain, such as pots, etc., would not become made by potters, because that is also divided into parts. There, it is seen as made by potters, therefore it is not made by fire. Therefore, fire is what produces transformation, but its own nature is not the maker. The sense faculty is also the maker of the first arising elements, because it has not been seen that way. At that time, it is not closely indicated that it is the maker of mind, like the transformation of another's mind. At that time, it is also not its maker, because in other cases it is its transformation. Even if there is nothing else, it is like fire to a pot. Therefore, only seeing is its result, and similarly, smoke will not become its maker, because it is seen as the maker of fire, etc. Similarly, it has never been seen that the sense faculty is the maker of mind, because even if all discriminations are gathered, it is said that because there is a sense faculty, there is seeing. However, the sense faculty that arises from what existed before, like a potter to a pot, will continue later. Even in that situation, even if there are no other discriminations, there will be no lack of the thought "I am," because that is the cause connected with pride, or because its habitual tendencies will follow, therefore there is no fault. If oppressed by thick sleep, because consciousness will cease, so will the sense faculty. When waking up, mind and sense faculty will also arise from the mind that begins to sleep. If this is established as the result of the mind's consciousness, then it is appropriate to speculate, otherwise, merely approximate understanding should be abandoned by those with speculation. This has not been established, because it is seen in reverse. To teach in this way is to say, "However, it is its transformation," it is only its maker.

If it is thought to be so, that is not established, like a pot without fire. Continuity is not said to be its result merely by the transformation itself, but all that appears in samsara, such as the body and senses, is seen as transforming along with the transformation. For the senses of birth, it is also recognized that having that transformation is prior. Is it necessary to say that continuity is its producer or produced by another producer? Transformations are not other, because it is possible to recognize it itself. Even from just those, other births are established, because by relying on the transformation itself, it is also closely abiding in all places. Through that way, because it is also continuity, know that it is said to be the basis. The senses are those that arise from the first births. From consciousness, that is, from what arises from past births, because it arises from that. It is originally without beginning, and also from that, that is, from the senses produced by karma in the first birth, the five consciousnesses of oneself arise in sequence as consciousness. For birth, from that it is also other, and from that the others, that is, those that arise from future samsara arise, because accompanied by self-conceit itself, it will inevitably produce the result of projection. Since there is no cultivation of antidotes, it is limitless, like now, this is the necessity of commentary. The remainder is that the first half of the latter half of the verse answers with other reasoning, the latter half of the latter half with uncertain reasoning, and by explaining the meaning of the words also, explaining only this meaning is for what, and so on. Explaining the first half is, similarly, consciousness is also, the difference of the producer of habit is consciousness, how is it proven that the senses are dependent on the body? Consciousness transforms, this is the reasoning. From the only one, its collection is not its basis, the collection of the five senses is its result, the five consciousnesses of form and taste etc. depend on it.
