It is not a transformation. The senses are not merely the product of consciousness. From these arises the cognition of it, therefore thinking that self, other, and the senses are established. To this, it is said: Even if the senses are harmed one by one, consciousness and wisdom are not harmed. This is because the senses are proven to be merely the product of consciousness, therefore "if this changes" etc., is to point out another proof for the next life. "One by one" etc., is the very distinction of following the habit of the previously shown proof. It is to dispel the doubt that it is uncertain to prove one's own lineage. Thus, knowledge such as hearing and thinking, and the various natures such as discernment, elimination, and close understanding, arise merely from consciousness, because it has included all the functions of the senses, not possessing the senses that perform the action. The exercise of sovereignty by consciousness does not hinder the function of the senses. As it is said, "Close your eyes and think for a while." If the action of something is excellent, then it will diminish, but that is not its result. For example, by combining cold and astringent etc., like phlegm. Even if diminution is the excellent action of the senses, the knowledge possessed by consciousness is self-aware. Therefore, calling the wisdom of consciousness "self" is not contradictory to describing the nature of such self as cognition. As it is said, "If consciousness is accompanied by pride, then the continuation of rebirth will not be pacified." Furthermore, through "depending on the consciousness of consciousness" etc., the senses are merely the product of consciousness, therefore they themselves are not its means, but rather state the domain of another proof. Or, through "temporary consciousness of consciousness" etc., the distinction of the habit of consciousness is that it is described as not arising from the senses. This is a response to the uncertainty of the senses inferring their own lineage. My wisdom is thus, and others are thus. Understand that that is how cognition operates. Is this the same as that? In that regard, how can I control?
