Now, to perceive as identical is actually due to a slight misunderstanding, from which arises the statement "that is this," which is erroneous. The statement "always the same"—where does the mind that abides change? To recognize as "that," one should examine that it is an error. Isn't it only the non-understanding of variety and sameness that causes such change? Indeed, it is so. Even if understood, how can one state the reason? If one says that sometimes it is just the object itself, that is not right, because one does not fail to understand the sounds of cows in that way. If a stable consciousness of "that is this" always arises for this, then existence itself is permanent, and by that, validity is established. Knowing the sound of a cow as that, is it not failing to understand the reason for sameness? Actually, it is only knowing. Reasoning is not different from clearly distinct objects, because it is too extreme. If there is harm to something that possesses characteristics, then it is said that only its characteristics are refuted. In short, from inference and so on, it is not recognizing what was seen before, because it is an object of generality. The nature of what is seen and what appears is the same object, and such sameness here is considered in terms of permanence. And it should be known that recognizing what was seen before is only a distinction of direct perception itself, it is a direct perception with distinctions, not a general direct perception. Therefore, it should be established or refuted by those who want things to be permanent or impermanent, not just now. What is needed for direct perception that does not depend on recognition? Therefore, those are not direct perceptions. Or, what I mean is that all direct perceptions are permanent, that is the meaning here. Recognizing what was seen before with the distinction of direct perception is what establishes permanence, because it is an object with distinctions, otherwise it is not, because it is an object of generality. Even if direct perception is negated, recognizing what was seen before with the distinction of direct perception is not negated. The direct perception of action that exists in the substance that is direct perception, and the mind that does not understand the characteristics of the activity of the senses, is inference.

Thus, "knowing the ground" and so on have already been taught. What is the state beyond the senses? That is said to be non-perception. With a mind of non-perception, it is determined by speaking of emptiness. The actions or forms, etc., that exist in perceived objects, like letters, are also clearer than the followers of the Dharma who clarify that they are permanent from the recognition of what was previously seen by perception. The distinctions such as fast and slow are not the nature of letters, just like the distinctions such as fast and slow. Only this is well understood, and it is the essence. The clarity of clarity and lineage, and the clarity of its maker, and the separate doctrines of difference and permanence, etc., are not valid for those who are exhausted by unseen thoughts. Whatever actions appear among those that exist in perceived objects, those, like letters, desire permanence from recognition. Those without its clarifiers are not seen to be always present. Thus, through that very door, the spoken white, etc., are also permanent. Only by the distinction of mixing, it also turns into a different consciousness. To one's own object, it is called thatness, in the lineage, who will become the knower? So it is said. Although sound, action, form, etc., have been determined to be of one nature from the recognition of what was previously seen, the mind is the nature of self-awareness. Is it not true that each object of knowledge is truly known to be different? How can it be said to be one nature? It is also one because the nature of sentient beings is not different. Since there is no difference between the time when the object of knowledge exists and does not exist, and it is also hidden at the time of the object of knowledge, how can it be established as truly knowing it? Like a mirror, whatever approaches it appears in that state, and like fire, although it has the ability to burn, it only burns what is close to it, and not others. Like fire, by its own nature, always has the function of burning, it only burns what is close to it, not others, nor at other times. Like a clear mirror, like a glass ball and a vala, whoever approaches
