It is not that it is not understood, but it is too much, that is what it means. The arising of results from the cause of habituating in methods such as giving is not what we agree with, because there is no cause, that is what is being shown. That refers to seeing everything and acting accordingly. Just as results arise from seeing the cause, similarly, from seeing the definite nature of fire etc., it is thought that only by seeing its other nature can it arise. This is called "the thing that appears here." The answer is: If the nature is manifest, that is to say, apart from seeing the definite nature, what else can be called the definite nature? That also includes the nature of seeing everything and acting accordingly, and another. From what is it determined? If it is determined, then "this is the nature of things" etc. is the answer; if it is not determined, then it is not the answer. If this is also the case for the seen object, then how should it be answered? If merely seeing can burn, then, because arising is also seen, the thing itself will also burn. Therefore, the sky will also become a burner, so merely seeing is uncertain. Therefore, it is reasonable to have the definite nature as the burner. Thinking that there is no difference between seeing and not seeing, this is called "if it is merely arising." If one can say that the definite thing is like that when seen, then how is it with seeing? The answer is not the same, because fire is because it is seen. If it is said from the situation of not seeing, then it is showing too much, this is called "some self's manifest desire." Just as permanence is not understood by means of valid cognition, similarly, the impermanence that you believe is also like that. Because the benefactor will not become an impermanent benefactor like the beneficiary student, otherwise it is impossible to be impermanent. If permanence also depends on faultlessness and acts accordingly, then it is also impossible to act accordingly when happy and instead cause harm when unhappy. It is merely that if it exists, it will benefit or cause harm, that is what is thought.
