Furthermore, why compose the Pramāṇavārttika and not explain the Sāṃkhya and other systems? Although the actions of the Buddha do not differ with respect to inverted knowledge, it is thought that once the Sāṃkhya and others are clarified, it is not appropriate to fall into a one-sided view of the Buddha. Therefore, with respect to the meaning of the sacred, that which deceives and does not deceive, that which shows that other Buddhas fall into one-sidedness and do not fall into one-sidedness, is called valid cognition. Likewise, in order to hear and explain its commentary, even if one approaches by combining explanation, it is not the reasoning of the Sāṃkhya and others, but the teaching is more beneficial. The remainder is as before. Some say that when the Bhagavan himself is fully established as valid cognition, making prostrations is for the sake of having no obstacles and for the completion of thought. This is unreasonable, because there is no valid cognition for the statement that prostrations are without physical obstacles. It is seen that virtuous people, when entering the treatises, desire to pacify obstacles by preceding with prostrations. In this way, is it not the case that the entry of these understanders also does not occur without valid cognition? Inferring the cause from the effect is understood by the omniscient wisdom, and the effect, the pacification of obstacles, is the result of prostrations. There is also entry that is not the result of valid cognition. It is unreasonable, because the entry of those with conceptual thought is the result of valid cognition. The entry of conceptual thought that knows the result of valid cognition itself is more excellent than not knowing. Indeed, from the single valid cognition alone, it is established that the Bhagavan is the all-seeing one, and that is also the unsurpassed field of merit. Therefore, wanting to accomplish prostration to him, it is established in that very one. Even so, apart from reciting verses and so forth, also like following the sound of atha and so on, after offering the Bhagavan in solitude with body and speech and so forth, entering is also for the sake of accomplishing desires. Reciting it has no result. If that is the case, why recite verses? For the sake of others, that is, so that others who do not have faith in the Bhagavan can also see.

If one wishes to enter into the treatise, no matter what kind of intention one has, by first prostrating with reverence and approaching without weariness, one becomes a vessel of merit. As it is said in the scriptures: "Whether with any intention, or not with real things, or following others, or even with doubt in mind, whoever prostrates to you, the Victorious One, the Moon, will also attain the perfect fruit of immortality." Thus it is taught. In this way, by prostrating for the sake of others, the absence of obstacles for one's own benefit is also naturally accomplished. Or, from where does the accumulation of merit that enables the composition of such a treatise come? The absence of obstacles from that accumulation of merit is also taught as being for the sake of others. This is called the beginning of the treatise, because it is the very meaning of the treatise. It is not that the meaning of the treatise needs to be understood, because there are many necessities for that, namely, it is for the sake of others, and that is the reason it is the meaning of the treatise. Whose praise it is, that is like his treatise, and praise is also for the sake of others. Or, because there are no obstacles from prostration, the treatise is completed, therefore prostration is the meaning of the treatise. Or, even without reciting verses, one can accomplish one's own benefit in a solitary place by making offerings to the Bhagavan, etc., but reciting verses is the meaning of the treatise, so it is for the sake of others. Others, no matter what their intention, by prostrating to the Bhagavan, will attain their own benefit. For others, it is difficult to generate the understanding of non-autonomy from among those who are autonomous and non-autonomous, therefore, it is by relying on the treatise that the Bhagavan is praised, and not others. The fruit of that praise is also the same as before, and it is said with the thought that it is for the sake of the meaning of the treatise, etc. Because the treatise is to be understood, the meaning of the treatise is the verse of the nature of the vow. Because it shows that prostration is made to the object of faith itself, it is to be understood by those who have conceptual minds, relying on the Bhagavan himself, and not on the writings of the teacher.
