Question: If through thorough examination, or through the power of a damaging pramana ( प्रमाण,pramāṇa,measure), some cognitions, such as memory, that possess aspects, but not all, how is that possible? Answer: It has been said. That experiential consciousness also depends on two parts, characterized by one aspect, that becomes the object of cognition. The experiential consciousness that is not of the nature of memory, with objects such as blue, becomes the object of the second cognition of its object, with the nature of memory, that is, it follows and firmly holds. In what way? By depending on the second part, that is, the cognition that appears as blue arises. Like that, others do not determine it through understanding the meaning, however, some like that are followers. Understanding through meaning, even the arising itself does not occur for some worldly people. In the world, whoever sees through meaning, therefore, I have another mind, such recognition does not exist. Understanding through meaning is mind. It is not self-knowing, if its own nature is not known, it cannot know. Apart from appearing as form, etc., is there any other aspect of mind that is understood through meaning, or determined by others? If it is determined as the nature of cognition, is it not not understanding the nature of cognition itself? Because of different conditions, the meaning of the realm does not become different. The meaning of conditions is also not different, because the difference in meaning between kte na and gha nya is not accepted. How to determine different meanings, begins to explain. Therefore, apart from blue, etc., there is no cognition called mind. Blue, etc., itself is said in that way by the difference of dharma that has transformed into self-nature, that is, blue mind or mind with blue as its object. Therefore, recognizing "I have a mind with blue as its object" is also following its aspect. It is said like this: Separated from blue, the cognition with blue as its object, is unseen by the subsequent cognition, it is fabricated by the mind that recognizes difference.

If the nature of blue, etc., is called "mind," which is different from it, then there will only be blue, etc. The so-called "mind" will cease to exist, just like white, etc., which are different from cloth. Therefore, the mind itself is not the ultimate truth. If it is thought that the desired is that external objects are not the ultimate truth, then that is not permissible. As it is said: Sometimes, relying on something, that thing itself is prevented. Whatever is established by valid cognition, relying on it, other things can be prevented. If the object is established by valid cognition, then at that time there is no other mind other than that object, so the mind should be completely abandoned. If the mind is established by valid cognition, then at that time it should not be abandoned. In this regard, for the time being, the object is established by the mind, therefore, having the object, the mind cannot be abandoned. Having the mind, the mind cannot be established by means of the object, because it is self-cognized. Therefore, even without an object, it can be promised. Therefore, after promising the mind, one should completely abandon the object that is different from it. However, if the object is also established by self-cognition, then it is the experience itself, not an object different from the mind. The object exists even if it is not seen, therefore, because it is not seen, the object should be abandoned, but the mind is not like that, so it should not be abandoned. Furthermore, just as it is well said that there is no object different from white, it is also well said that there is no object different from the mind. As it is said: Momentariness, etc., in any case, there is no object other than blue, etc. Even so, the moment is not manifest without an object. Therefore, the aspect of blue, etc., itself is the mind, because other minds are so certain. Therefore, after abandoning both parts, the mind itself is without an object, so how is it not two aspects? Or, the mind is characterized by one aspect, and becomes an object with two knowledges, and to take one aspect as an object is its definition. In what way does it become one aspect? In response to this, it is said that it is the basis of the two parts, that is, it pervades both parts. Precisely because of this, the two parts are recognized.
