If it is said, why are different examples of "Shin" shown, but there are no other distinctions? The answer to this is: Whatever exists, without which it does not arise, Or those without distinction of self-nature, They are not confused with each other, For the sake of this meaning, distinguish them well. Whatever does not exist without something else is the reason itself, because it is not confused. For the different, if the result is not understood, there is no other thing that is not confused. If it is said that merely not being confused is the reason, but not because it is the result, because ashes are the result of fire, but they are not unconfused. Similarly, if it is said that a non-result can also make one understand the basis of water with a state, that is not correct. Because, like this, precisely because it is the result, it cannot be said that it is merely what makes one understand. However, it is only the result of what makes one understand, because if the different is not the result, then it is also not what makes one understand. For the past fire and the fire existing elsewhere, the result produced from it—ashes—is only what makes one understand such a thing. Therefore, by its difference, it transforms into a difference, and what makes one understand is completely combined with the result. Here, the reason is also like this, and the thing with the reason is only such a thing. If having a state can also make one understand, then the basis will also become the knower of the state. However, even if the basis does not have a state, there is a knower, so that is not correct. If it is said that because water and so on do not exist without a basis of state, it is what makes one understand. If that is the case, then the very fact that the result is what makes one understand is established, because what does not arise without something is its result. The state with a basis also does not arise without a basis, so it is the result. If it is said that the state itself is the result, but not the water, then the state itself is the knower, but not the water, so there is no confusion. If it is said that the water itself with the difference of state is the knower, why would the state with the difference of water not be the knower? The reason is like this, because it is what makes one understand from following and reversing.

Nor is there water other than that which exists in water. If it is asked whether falling is also water itself, then it is indeed water. But that is not itself, other water is also only water. It has already been shown that there is no generality of water itself. Even if it exists, that is not what makes it understood, what makes it understood is only clarity. That is also because it is a result, so there is no other than the result that makes it understood. But if it is assumed that clarity is only one, that is also not permissible. Because it would lead to the fallacy of saying, "That itself exists, but that itself is not so." If it is said that it is so by category, then there is no fault, if that is the case, then how can it be the only clarity since there is no understanding of the former and the latter as one? Not understanding is not otherness and oneness. What makes it one is understanding itself, not understanding and not understanding. Because there is no understanding, it is not appropriate to establish things. Recognition has been eliminated. Therefore, in all places, from examining recognition, the result itself is the reason for making it understood. Water and ashes, etc., things, by what nature are they produced? By that itself also becoming knowable, because it exists, it is not understood from others. What is self-nature without distinction? It means: what is the self-nature of something, that is the knowable of that thing, just as the fragrant flower tree is the self-nature of the tree, so it is the knowable of the tree. If, just as the fragrant flower tree is the self-nature of the tree, the tree is also the self-nature of the fragrant flower tree, then if both are not there, it will become non-existent, if you ask like that, it is not. Because it is not without distinction. Even if there is no fragrant flower tree, leaves, branches, etc. are still there. Because the fragrant flower tree is not like that, so that itself is without distinction, therefore it is knowable. If the self-nature of that is the same, if non-distinction is knowable, if that is the case, that self-nature, that will not become the cause of knowable. Even if that has no self-nature, it is the same, unmistakably seeing other smoke. Therefore, the self-nature of that is not the reason for making it understood. From following and contradicting, that will not become the reason. That is not like that, that self-nature does not arise from that.
