The past is not real. If it is said that a definite indication should be a valid cognition, then recollection would also be the same. To be associated with an object is meaningless. If it is said that even though it is not connected with the senses, a definite indication is a valid cognition, then this is using an unreasonable reason, and only those who are tolerant cannot tolerate it. Like this: From the non-deceptive, knowledge is established as valid cognition. Where is the non-deceptive now? It does not exist in the past that has passed away. If it is said that although it is not one, is the action done by it not it? Other fires can also do things, but only accomplish them. The nature of being eliminated by the things that it does not do, doing that thing, is only considered one in the conventional sense. Speaking of one thing and distinguishing it, only by the ability of that thing, there is nothing wrong with it. In the speech of the object of meaning that is separated from the action, the determined one cannot be done by those who have distinctions. The object of that recollection is one only by doing what it does. Therefore, it is a subsequent inference of the sign of its own nature. Although the nature is one, it is different from the observed Dharma and the prior cause. Knowledge is one in that reality, and it is valid cognition. If so, why is it not recollected as this bottle for those who are suitable for doing that action, such as bottles? The thought that it is similar is recollection. Also, it is said: This is the bottle that has been brought, that cold water is this, etc. Like this: When you say to take something else, when the appearance of that other thing is taken, the word that can take it will definitely arise. When you want to take rubble etc. other than the bottle, when you say to take something else, when the appearance of that bottle is taken, then you see the words: This is the bottle that has been taken. Because the words connected with the beginningless habits are very obvious, it appears as a non-fabricated real thing. Therefore, it is not determined by recollection as one word. Because the ability to understand is the same, it is confused like this. If it is said

Then how would it be in other cases? In other cases, how would trust arise? For someone without knowledge, there is no trust anywhere. Because one has seen mistakes, one loses trust in someone. Likewise, one would trust some others. However, relying on those who have the same conduct and do not err, just as one trusts their children, so too one trusts the continuous lineage that is close to them. If it were just a moment, how could one desire to take it back? If it were one and the same, that would be very reasonable. For example, because of giving and then taking back, one would have fear and shame. Even though there is a change of fear and shame, who caused the fear and shame? However, because it is close to it, one realizes that it is grasped by oneself. If one mistakenly thinks that it is grasped by oneself, and the name is also grasped by oneself, then that mistake also exists in the momentary continuum. Why isn't that kind of designation the cause? Even for what is observed by others, it arises from causes, and it is not another cause of clinging. Even if one asserts that the self is permanent, one is not liberated from the clinging caused by cause and effect. For example, the self does not change from its own single essence in the past and the future. Therefore, since he does not have fear and dread, etc., how can he be threatened by fear, etc.? But if fear arises in him, it is because he is associated with it? That is not so, because there is no fear in his own essence, and because there is nothing that harms him. The very things of cause and effect are the cause of such a designation. Harm by mere designation is not harm. If you say that even though they are different, because they are related, harming the son is also harming oneself, that is not so. Because it resides in another, it will depend on oneself. If that were not the case, then harming an enemy would also become harming oneself, since there is also a relationship of harmer and harmed with the enemy. If, even if the son also becomes an enemy, harming him does not cause harm. Therefore, harm is the nature of harm, and not the harm of others. Therefore, since it is momentary, the self is not different from the cause. Therefore, all these designations are of that kind.
