If it is different only because of itself, then everything that appears must also be like that, so the commonality is meaningless. When one realizes that the two are different, how can the commonality exist in one of them? Therefore, without a doubt, through this one will realize that everything that appears is different. The difference that arises only because of the difference in kind, because it exists in all things, is itself the commonality. If there is no commonality, then how can the similarity and dissimilarity of kinds be distinguished? For example: Appearances are different from each other, if there is no commonality between them, then the difference of appearances will not be recognized. If the difference arises by relying on appearances, then just as the spotted cow and the yellow cow are different from the horse and the cow, the horse and the cow and the spotted cow are also different from the yellow cow, so these two will also become the same kind. By gathering all things together and naming them, thereby distinguishing them, but this also does not mean that everything can be seen. Therefore, this is also unreasonable. If someone says: This is unreasonable. That is unreasonable, for example: Even if the commonality exists, this fault cannot be avoided. The commonality appears through appearance, not by relying on its own nature. Because appearance is empty, the appearance cannot be seen in directions and so on. Therefore, for the appearance itself, the one that is relied upon cannot be seen completely. Therefore, that also cannot achieve the difference through the function of naming. The commonality is also named after being recognized, or it is called. Without appearance, the commonality cannot be approximately indicated. If all appearances are seen, then because the definite commonality is seen, there will be no confusion in naming. Even at that time, the commonality is meaningless, because all the appearances themselves are directly seen. For example, after seeing an appearance, naming it as a cow, then how to recognize the separately determined commonality? For the commonality of livestock and so on, it will be said that no difference has been recognized. If only the cow itself is the object of naming, then it is not known what the cow itself is. What should be done? What kind of appearance should be used to make it appear? If it is said to make it appear with this kind of appearance, then because the appearance relies on it, the fault of mutual dependence will arise. If the commonality is recognized, then all the appearances themselves are all the appearances, even so, they can be separately determined.

It is understanding the general characteristic. If it is said, "Because it is also a cow," does it become a different entity? No, because it is understood only by the fact that the general characteristic "named cow" does not apply to horses, swans, etc. If it is said that when the thought "This is a cow" arises in the mind, then the cow itself is understood, how can the object be understood by a mind that does not know the object to be measured? The object to be measured, which is different from color and shape, is the same, but it is not understood. If it is said that it itself is the general characteristic because it follows, etc., it is not, because there is no following. Color is not the nature of following other appearances; even if one appearance is seen, it would lead to the fault of understanding that it follows it. If that were the case, it would lead to understanding all appearances. If it is said that the general characteristic is made apparent by the appearance, so it will not be understood in that way, then it will never be understood. If it is said that one understands as much as one sees, it is not, because the general characteristic itself does not have that much. If that is the case, then it is not a general characteristic, because it is merely an appearance, and there is no other general characteristic. If it is retorted that the knowledge that produces such a state is itself the general characteristic, then returning from other things is the general characteristic. The wise say that returning from other things is the general characteristic, but for things of a different kind from it, other than returning, it is not possible to point out what this general characteristic is. Different kinds are just returning from another thing, because how are they the same and different, so what is seen is another thing, not another. It is possible to point out "This is the general characteristic," but if it is said that it is not possible to point out because there is no difference, that is also incorrect, because it would lead to the fault of non-existence. After the appearance has ceased, it is not possible to establish the general characteristic, because it would lead to the absence of names. If it is said that the general characteristic is an appearance, but it is just like that, that is also unreasonable, because there are also names with reasons for returning, just like saying "not a substance of action." The reason for the names of mutual differences between general characteristics is also the return itself. Or, if it is said that the reason for the mutual names between general characteristics is having an appearance, if that is the case, there is still a fault, because this
