If so, it would become contradictory by obstructing inference. It is also not that inference is not desired, because it is said, "For the practitioner, fame is the sign of self-nature." Like this, this only harms the fame that arises from sound, but not the inference that enters by the power of things. Merely being permissible is not able to turn towards the manifest, because for it, only things appear. However, if because it is non-conceptual, only things appear, and not the nature of what is to be said and what says, then the things of cause and effect would also not appear. If, like the things of cause and effect, the things of what is to be said and what says are also the same, how is this said? This is indeed true, but the things of cause and effect are the objects of all things, while the things of what is to be said and what says are not. Like this: The nature of what is to be said and what says, Is entered by place and time, by others. For things, what? Causality itself does not exist. For the things of cause and effect, even if they are not established by direct perception in the ultimate sense, they appear like direct perception because they are established without difference for all practitioners. Like this: The smoke that I saw before, Has the cause of fire. Otherwise, this is this, How does knowledge arise? Even if it was not examined before, I saw it before. Then, would it become direct perception with conceptualization? No, because there was no conceptualization before, because it is recognized that without conceptualization, I saw it. The conceptualization that arises at another time is not the reason for the direct perception with conceptualization that arose before, because it is not related to it. If the conceptualization that arises at a later time is itself without an object, then how does it establish it as non-conceptual? The past object does not become direct perception, so how does it establish it as non-conceptual? No, because non-apprehension is not contradictory to having a past object. Like this, the past

The non-apprehension of the characteristic of the reversal of perception for practitioners between the past and the present is what establishes the term "non-existence." All worldly terms are just like that. If it were not so, terms would disappear. Nothing could stay or move. Therefore, when the perception of the past and present is reversed, if the memory of the one who understands is without delusion, then at that time, he will use the term "non-existence." Determining these things is established for all beings. No one thinks, "The object to be expressed and the object expressing are held by me through direct perception." For example, without merely pointing out by seeing, sound and meaning become the expresser and the expressed. Whether or not one grasps this indication, no one understands it as such. Indicating the absence of seeing, this is what is to be expressed. This is the expresser. No one understands the connection between sound and meaning. The indication is also merely a wish if someone speaks. Otherwise, there would be no conceptualization of explanation. The objects of cause and effect cannot be proven in any other way. If the function of a name is direct perception, the Vaibhashikas say. For example, this is a sacrifice. At the time of indicating objects, if one sees and hears, one will understand it from direct perception. At the time of indication, when one sees the object that one wants to name, such as Devadatta, in front of one, and when one examines the nature of the sound, such as "Devadatta," in the realm of the ear, then the people who use the term will determine, "This is the name of this." It is not necessarily the case that the connection between different types grasped by direct perception will not be determined. For example, otherwise, memory and experience, and the connection between them, will not be completely determined, because they exist in different categories. That is not so. For example, if things with names grasp the connection through direct perception, then at other times they will not grasp it in another way. If the connection between a name and the thing named is dire
