Furthermore, from the perspective of reasoning, that which one intends to establish, and which has not been refuted by contradictory meanings, is the subject, because it is said so. Showing that which establishes is not the root of what is intended. If what is to be established is action, then considering that which establishes as action is not action, like using milk to cook rice. In the Compendium of Valid Cognition, it is also because it is definitely held to be only one's own nature. What the rational person intends to establish is referred to as the proposition "is," because it is necessary to take what is to be established as the main thing. If it is said that showing what is to be established is not the proposition, then it is said in response: If the means of proof itself is stated, not because of desire, then what is obtained by reason is not contrary to the words. Because the treatise has been promised. If this is reasoning, then how is it obtained by reasoning, and the words that show reasoning do not prevent reasoning itself. Or, the reasoning shown by words is also shown as establishing, but is it not the establishing that is not to be established? That is not the case, because if it were, then these two: Contradictory but not confusing would become, because the treatise has been promised, and similarly saying desire, etc. If establishing by reasoning such as stating desire is not the establishment of what is to be established, similarly because the treatise has been promised, if so, then establishing mutually contradictory meanings on one, then both would become causing doubt. If that is the case, because the treatise has been promised, this is not establishing, so even if it is considered that what is seen in the treatise is establishing itself, how could it become what is to be established? Or, because the treatise has been promised, this is not reasoning, and if that is the case, then what the debater intends to establish by desire is what is to be established, but considering that which establishes itself is not, if so, here it is said: If it is not disallowed to establish, the debater does not allow other dharmas, and at that time what is to be established will be harmed.
