Regarding a single dharma-possessor, the scriptures say: Although there are many classifications of dharmas, "self" is what needs to be realized, therefore the word "self" is mentioned. Some say that what is seen in the scriptures is what needs to be realized, because harm to it will lead to faults in reasoning and promises. As it is said in the explanation of reasoning: A promise is scripture, because it is called scripture for the purpose of showing the meaning of scripture, otherwise it is not. In the Commentary on Pramāṇasamuccaya, it says: Otherwise, scripture is valid cognition, and a promise is what produces doubt, how can they become one? Precisely because it shows the meaning of scripture to others, it is the meaning of scripture. Therefore, a promise is scripture, and if its meaning is harmed, it is a fault of reasoning, because the scriptures are harmed. Reasoning that contradicts the scriptures does not accomplish what needs to be proven. It is also a fault of the promise. Impermanence itself also needs to be proven to be the same as the nature of space, just as the scriptures or some other reasoning need to prove the nature of space. The meaning of the promise is such impermanence. If it is negated by that, it is a fault of the promise. For example: If it immediately perishes in an instant, then the nature of space is false. If it perishes at other times, then the nature of space is also false. If the nature of sound perishes in an instant because it has no cause, how can it become the nature of space? "Support" means the cause of existence, but an instant is not existence. A single instant is from its own cause. Or, if it exists at another time, then it is born from its own cause, therefore, at that time it also exists by the power of the cause, so what is the use of support? Or, if it exists at other times and places by the power of support, then is it not existing in a non-perishing way? What is the use of support? Sound, which would fall if there were no support, is not heavy, nor does it rely on the nature of holding that space has. Space does not hold heavy things. The nature of holding falling heavy things does not exist in space.

Because it is not heavy and does not fall, what is the use of holding it? That sound wants to hold what is moved by the wind, if the sky is not held, it will be destroyed. To be destroyed by dependence is like that, that is its nature. Until there is no destruction, because it exists, there is no other support. Therefore, it does not exist, this change of existence is certain. If it only exists for a moment, and exists and does not exist at other times, for permanent dharmas, existence and non-existence, then the support itself is meaningless. That is true, even so, this is also the nature of being born together constantly. This should not be analyzed either, it is also realized for what is done. Therefore, relying on the meaning of the nature of impermanence, because it is meaningless, therefore establishing impermanence, that is because of the harm done by the support itself, it is a fault of reason and a fault of commitment. To this, it is stated: If because of the promise of the treatise, everything is grasped, to that one, extremely harmful, which reason and promise become faults? When establishing that sound is impermanent, in order to remove the qualities of the Gandharva, the reason is contradictory, because it is not the occasion, if not, then it is the same for others. If merely because of the promise of the treatise, the treatise is harmed, and it becomes a fault of reason and promise, then, at that time, just as the quality of sound being space is prevented, it will also become like establishing the removal from the qualities of the Gandharva. Because, how the impermanence itself related to the quality of space itself of that dharma as it is said by it is to be established, similarly, the intention made by the treatise, the connection itself related to other qualities related to the dharma with smell, and what the treatise is to establish will also become like that. Even if it is prevented, because it is unreasonable to be related to the treatise, it will become a fault of promise. Because smell is not the occasion, so how should not be said either, because the quality of space is also not the occasion. There is no difference between the two. If this subject is the occasion, then for it, the meaning of the treatise will be harmed. Because the meaning of the treatise has been promised. Other subjects.
