This very thing is a particularity. If something cannot be followed in any way, so that it cannot be made an object universally, then for such objects there is no consideration based on what is to be proven and what proves. Let alone the investigation of epistemology, it is not even possible to understand this by this one scripture alone. Therefore, to try to apply epistemology to it is to not clearly know the object of epistemology, showing an inappropriate nature. However, as long as this is not understood, it is not understood that it appears to be proving, therefore, it is proving through that thought. When it is known that this is not proving, it will no longer be proving, so what is wrong with this? That is also not true, like this: If, according to the thought of an individual, it is not regarded as the same thing, then the reason and its appearance will disappear, because it is not based on reality. Merely the desire of an individual can make a reason a non-reason, and a non-reason a reason. If there is no distinction between a reason and its appearance, or if there is, it eliminates the desire of the individual. Therefore, what is accepted by others is not a proof. Furthermore, from an unexamined scripture, only a mere cognition will arise, but not a certainty about the object. A mere cognition does not establish the object, like this: Meaningful knowledge depends on the object. Cognition of the meaningless is not a proof. Even if it exists, but is unrelated to the object, cognition is the same as no cognition. Only the meaningful proves others, not the meaningless. The meaningless has no cause called establishment. If it is said that the cognition of the meaningless is established from the existing, if that does not exist, then from where is it known that it is its cognition? If it is said that cognition itself directly proves the object, that is not right, because that would lead to direct perception. Therefore, if there is no object, it cannot be established from cognition. If it is possible to understand from cognition alone, in whatever way, from a fabricated object, that is not right, because fabrication accompanied by the object is understood from the object itself.

Therefore, it is so. If, for a phenomenon that has become a reality, there is no establishment of a sign as having reality, then, at that time, the cognition is merely appearing as if it were a cognition. Because it arises from a similar reason. From a place that is not smoke, through the knowledge of a tomb, the cognition of fire is not true. To impute in a reversed manner does not establish what is to be established. Furthermore, this has already been determined as an inference for one's own sake, because it is what establishes the meaning of the three characteristics, and not others. Therefore, nature and result, or appearance and non-apprehension, are the signs. If this connection is established from reality, then why is it not established in oneself? If it is established in reality because it is established by valid cognition as the nature of what is to be established, then why is it not established in the Samkhya (enumerationist) school itself? Establishment by valid cognition is established for both, because valid cognition is common. However, if there is no valid cognition, then at that time, others should not recognize others either. Just as the reason of impermanence, etc., of the Samkhya is established in you, please recognize from that which is established. Just like the establisher. Furthermore, this is established in you. Just as I recognize from the reason established by valid cognition, so are others who possess recognition. If it is not so, the Samkhya's recognition will not become a prerequisite. I alone am wise, and others do not think so, is not a cognition that possesses such a thought. Therefore, merely because others acknowledge it, one should not employ the establisher for the wise. Then, how do you and the former teachers want to establish what is to be established through the establisher that is established in others? That is not so. Because through what is observed by others, the refutation and the establishment are interconnected. Because if one does not exist, the other will be negated. That is the establishment of refutation, but from that, what is to be established is not certain. Merely because others acknowledge it, what is to be established is not certain. Then, why? Because that connection is for the purpose of showing that if one does not exist, the other does not exist either. Without what is to be established, the establisher cannot exist. The establishment of refutation is like this: one of the many, etc., is the difference of objects, etc.
