Nothing whatsoever is definitely grasped. Even if definitely grasped, there is no need. If someone says that sometimes it is definitely grasped, that too is without certainty. For example, some parts of a combination, are they sometimes seen? Does the meaning of a combination change from the cause itself? Combination is the only cause. That which transcends following and deviating is not the cause itself, because the characteristic of the cause itself is exhausted in just that. Furthermore, through memory, what thing becomes hidden? The idea that arises through inference, that is not the object of memory. That which becomes the object of inference is not the object of memory. If it were so, then inference would become meaningless, because the hidden thing itself is grasped by memory itself. If memory recognizes that it is hidden, but not at that time recognizes that it is existent, then, what is it that recognizes that it is hidden? If it is said to be what was seen before, then, memory recognizes that the ultimate thing of that time itself is hidden, and not something else, so memory itself is meaningless. Because one enters into the hidden from memory, therefore memory is valid cognition, and not because inference enters. If someone says that one enters from memory, this needs to be carefully analyzed. Does one enter into that time? Or is it not so? If one enters into that time, one cannot obtain it. Those with concepts enter into what can be obtained, and not otherwise. The present time is not recognized by memory, so how can it be valid cognition? If one previously recognized the meaning of time as hidden, then one cannot obtain it. Or, the hidden thing itself is grasped by direct perception, and what is grasped by direct perception as the ultimate thing of that time, in relation to later time, is hidden. Its form itself, arising from the power of habit, is merely the essence of this memory. If it is said that it is that kind of thing itself, then there is no purpose.

From the power of faith and understanding, it abides as that which is not that. Is the self-nature realized by self-awareness meaning? Or is it not meaning? It does not become such a distinct abiding, but is established distinctly by the faith that arises after it. In the aspect of memory, that does not exist. Thus, those who possess realization, whatever is meaning, that is what was seen before, and this aspect is born from the power of such familiarity. Thus it is realized. Therefore, on happiness and so forth themselves, the meaning that is transferred is appearance, and these self-knowing agents are merely born from meaning. Just as the memory born from the action of experiencing cognizes the aspect of meaning transferred onto oneself, so too are happiness and so forth. Thus, those too are born from the action of familiarity, becoming the self-nature of the distinction of inner awareness, and are merely cognizers. Then, how does it rely on objects such as form? Because through that door, it ripens the habit that is in accordance with it. The action that arises from the experience of the aspect of happiness born from the connection of touch, awakens from seeing that. The habit that arises from the experience of the happiness of embrace, having become extremely dependent, later, when awakened by seeing such a form, by becoming such a self-nature, it generates the happiness of inner awareness. What demonstrates this is that the self-nature of objects, those, are experienced by their own self-nature. Therefore, it is said that meaning appears, the object itself appears there. One who has become the self-nature of the distinction of inner awareness is experienced by happiness and so forth. Therefore, it is said to experience meaning, if it is not so, but rather experiences something else, then the connection will not be certain. Thus, for what reason from the cause of the essence, one should experience one's own essence. Experiencing the essence of another, for what reason because of its difference. He is not his essence. For what reason does another appear from that. From a lamp, a vase is produced, such an appearance is produced. From the knowledge of the aspect of appearance, the appearance of meaning is not produced, if it is a result, then that knowledge, how does it become realization?
