Then, for the place and time themselves, one enters the stage of understanding them as different from self-nature and association. It has already been explained that following and deviating are not actually awareness. For example: in terms of direct perception, it is following, and self-nature itself is awareness. The distinction between existence and non-existence is that the ignorant presume themselves to be aware. Some people, even without awareness, presume themselves to be aware, for example: 'This is what I did,' 'This is what I saw,' and so on. Because for them, awareness has passed. If it is said that presuming changes when spoken, then what does 'speaking' refer to, what kind of inverted fabrication is it? It is the same for this as well. If it is said that actions are different, that is not the case, because there is no action. The actor is not something that previously did not exist and then ceases to exist. It has already been explained that truth cannot be made to cease. If the cessation of the actor is the cause of inverted fabrication, then fabricating difference, following, and fabricating deviation will also become like that. What contradiction is there in this? Apart from presumption, there is actually no understanding of following and deviation. Everything is different only in presumption. Therefore, even if the former and the latter are understood as separate, they should be acknowledged as one, otherwise it will become merely knowledge. That also cannot be acknowledged, because for what reason? That which has difference is clear, that which has no difference does not see others. It is not possible to acknowledge that what is not seen exists. Without that, it is not possible to explain that the limbs of difference are possessed by the limbs of non-difference. Therefore, because of acknowledging external objects, one should acknowledge the holding itself simultaneously. If many are held by one, how is it? If it is said that the view that enters into one cannot enter into others at that time, then it has already been explained that what is seen is many, and not others. In reality, self-awareness is the only one, it is impossible for others to hold others. Furthermore, there is nothing called holding, but only the arising of the appearance of that mind.

Do. It is neither that many do not produce one, nor that they do not produce. For example, if it is like the senses and so on, many different arising changes, becoming the cause of mind at once, what contradiction is there? Just as the senses, objects, and attention, or the self, senses, and mind combining, give rise to the sense consciousness of the senses at once, so too, if they are atoms, there is no contradiction, even though the atoms are impermanent, what difference is there? Even if they are gathered together, the atoms do not become large. If it is said that they do not abandon their smallness, is that clinging? That is not so either, here, largeness is not the difference, the difference is ability. Because there is no ability, it does not become the cause, because it is not large, it is not desired. If it is said that the atoms that give rise to mind following their own nature are visible, then because they are non-existent, it is proving what is already proven. However, if only consciousness is produced, then it is only existent, because hairs and so on are seen, there is no contradiction. For example, just as hairs that are not mixed at a distant place also appear as one thick one, so too, there is no contradiction because they are atoms. How does the small one produce it like separated strands? It is because the separated strands are not able. The lack of ability contradicts the object of the cause, not the smallness itself, just like the hair itself. At the time of assembly, even if the difference of grossness does not arise for the senses and so on, it is still produced from the difference of ability itself. If so, how is it that the ability of the other who dwells nearby is not seen, how does it exist? If it is the same, then it produces one result, not another, how will such a distinction be? It arises from the distinction of acting together from a distant place and so on. If it is said that even from a distant place, the hair itself will be distinguished, then because another assembly follows, this has already been analyzed. If it is said that because it is a cause, it is apprehended, then the eye and so on should also become apprehended, because it is a cause? Therefore, it is said.
