Moreover, what initially arises, if not known by the wisdom of its own characteristic, then what arises after it will become clear. Similarly, since association and so on are also like that, therefore that would also become a valid cognition. This becomes memory because it is the object and the subject, but it is not so, because there is no memory for what is not apprehended. The self-characterized consciousness does not want to grasp universally, because it grasps what is not grasped, therefore the awareness of the universal will become a valid cognition. That is to say, after realizing the self-nature, obtaining the knowledge of the universal is called valid cognition. There is no dispute that the self-cognizance realizes the nature of the universal consciousness. Therefore, if the universal consciousness transforms into something else, or transforms into self-nature, in any case, will that consciousness become a valid cognition? The explanation for this is not so, because thinking "whatever consciousness does not know its own characteristic," it is for the sake of distinguishing the self-characteristic. Even if the universal consciousness grasps what is not grasped, it is not a valid cognition. Why? Whatever consciousness does not know its own characteristic, that is what is considered a valid cognition, not the universal. The consciousness that does not know the universal is not a valid cognition, but it knows the unknown self-characteristic. Why is that? In order to distinguish the self-characteristic. In order to truly establish existence or non-existence, the valid cognition with realization is necessary to rely on. Distinguishing existence or non-existence is only for the self-characteristic, not for the universal, because people do not respect it. Whatever is truly distinguished, later because it is its self-nature, therefore valid cognition intervenes. Because valid cognition does not intervene in the universal, therefore it is not a valid cognition. If the universal is not realized, how does it intervene saying "that is this"? It is not so, even if the universal is not realized, it will intervene because of extreme familiarity. If even there the universal itself intervenes, that is not so, because intervening in the unknown itself is without knowledge. Even if it is known, if the self-characteristic is not known, it will not intervene, if the self-characteristic is known, even if the universal is not distinguished, it will intervene because of familiarity. Therefore, because it is not the intervener, and to it

Since there is no direction towards manifestation, general consciousness is a valid cognition. Even if it is allowed to enter, it is not a valid cognition because there is no direction towards it. If it is grasped by self-awareness, then it is only its own nature, so it is a valid cognition for the object of its own nature. When there is no duality, then it is not general, and after realizing one's own nature, it is not indicated as other. When knowing one's own nature, it is considered that there is no knowledge. Among them, ignorance means that there is no knowledge here. For what? For which consciousness? For knowing one's own nature, therefore. Who says that this is after knowing one's own nature? Or, when recognizing the difference, there is no valid cognition for the nature of the former and the latter. Here, all consciousness realizes its own nature, not separately. Then, why did the Blessed One explain the difference between direct perception and inference, the difference between external objects and consciousness, and the difference between complete defilement and complete purification? It is explained that through consideration, because it is not deceptive. Through the intention of those to be tamed, because it depends on it. Self-aware direct perception alone is valid cognition, others are not. Elaboration is due to the intention of those to be tamed, in whatever way those to be tamed enter that one path, the Blessed One explains it in that way, so there is no contradiction. Where does that come from? In order to analyze one's own nature. If analyzed separately, then everything is impermanent. From non-duality, there is nothing other than that suchness. That suchness is gradually analyzed by the Blessed One. Because it cannot be analyzed all at once. If directed towards external objects, how can it be self-awareness? That does not exist, depending on place and time, etc., one knows outer and inner. Place, time, and one's own nature, difference is not reasonable. This will also be explained later. Then, why is the Blessed One a valid cognition? Direct perception and inference are only nominally valid cognitions, the Blessed One is not, because that is the supreme valid cognition. The explanation for this is: possessing that
