What is the meaning of saying that it is a valid cognition because there is doubt about what arises from it (the valid cognition)? If a valid cognition is for knowing things, but not for doing things. How can it be known, since doing things arises later from some differences in aggregates? That is not so. For whose sake is this composed? If that is not established, since the establisher and what is to be established are not related, how can it be said to be established? Because one understands that the desired accomplishment of things will arise from this valid cognition, one undertakes to seek valid cognition, otherwise it is not. If it is not so, it will become nonsense. If the clarified thing is not doing things, then what is the difference from the meaningless hair-like appearances seen by those with cataracts? Or sometimes it does things, but hair-like appearances do not. If so, then how does one engage in seeking that thing? Engaging from doubt is not arising from valid cognition. Valid cognition is for determining, not for doubting. If it is said that doing things is certain, how can it be certain if what is to be done is uncertain? Or that valid cognition indicates the object that accomplishes things. If what is to be done does not come from some incomplete things, this is not the fault of valid cognition. If you say that, it is unreasonable. If it is not a knower, and the fault of valid cognition is not mentioned, because that has no other faults, everything will become non-valid cognition. That which measures and completely determines the desired thing is a valid cognition. Because what is not a knower does not have the ability to completely determine, it is not a valid cognition. Therefore, it should be explained in another way, because that self arises from that, by the power of determining what is to be done, in order to realize the nature, therefore knowledge itself is a valid cognition. Whatever knowledge is doing things, because it is the nature of doing things, it realizes doing things, and for that doing things, it is the knowledge that establishes that itself. The previous knowledge that establishes is when one realizes that that thing is indeed firm. The previous nature will arise.

It is obtained at the time of obtaining, in order to know that it will not be eaten by ghosts. Therefore, in reality, the nature of the latter is the very essence of the former, so there too it is only its own entity. Or, the result that arises without being eaten by ghosts is the cause itself, because it pervades the cause. Whatever pervades differently is the cause itself, because without it, it does not arise. If the unborn is the cause, how is it the cause? Just as the born is also how, the fault is the same. If this exists, then this arises. Because this is born, therefore it is born here. This is the doer here. This is done by this, do not worldly people understand the things of cause and effect? Arising is not existence, nor is it born, nor is it the doer, nor is it done by it, because it does not exist at that time. Here it is said: Existence and birth, two things, are not other than one's own essence. This saying, "If this exists," there is no other meaning to it. Born and existence are not other than one's own essence. If the immediate of the cause, existence is born, then, is it only the existence that arises immediately that is born? If that is so, then the discriminations that arise from waking up from a long sleep will not arise from previous habituation, because there is no immediate arising. The body and so on should also be shown not to be the cause. The doer is not other than one's own essence. Therefore, it will become that one's own essence is one's own essence. At the time of the result, the essence of the previous cause does not exist. Merely that it will not arise if it does not exist, for the arising of the cause that will become a result that will not be eaten by ghosts, there is also existence. Therefore, arising is also a cause. However, if what is seen is what pervades, then that is the cause. Even so, is it the previously arisen that is the cause, and arising is not the cause? No, what is seen, by its own essence, is not understood as the pervader. The nature of fabrication, arising is also like that. What is seen is merely
