It is also not in accordance with the wishes of the Sautrāntikas, because it has been promised that all illusions are not valid cognitions. If even illusions are direct perception, then what is the difference between direct perception and inference? It will be explained that it is because of different appearances. Illusion itself also has different appearances, like the appearance of inference and the consciousness of someone with cataracts. All consciousness is non-erroneous. Valid cognition is not illusion. Illusion and non-illusion, who knows this difference? Illusion is touching one's own nature-path, which is the same for all valid cognitions. Just as inference does not touch the nature of what is to be obtained, so too is direct perception, there is no difference. Therefore, knowing the light of a jewel as a jewel is also direct perception. If it is said that the inference that will arise in the future is a valid cognition, this is the same for other direct perceptions. There, there is no self-conception as another valid cognition, but there is in knowing a jewel, if you say so, it is not so, because due to great familiarity, even in knowing a jewel, there is no self-conception as another valid cognition, so it is the same. If it is said that in knowing a jewel in the light, there is a self-conception as an illusion, but not in knowing a pillar and so on, what is said about this is that in the ultimate sense it is the same, so, from the point of view of self-conception as not a valid cognition, the difference is not true, because both are valid cognitions. In short, in direct perception and inference, there is a valid cognition, and there is no self-conception, and this alone does not make things different. Because how can self-conception as not a valid cognition arise, so there is no difference between having and not having these. Therefore, for the light of a jewel, the consciousness of knowing it as a jewel, it is certain whether it is direct perception or inference. Or, how can it be direct perception without grasping the nature of the jewel? For pillars and so on, if it is said that even if the nature that will arise in the future is not grasped, but at that time, there is grasping of the nature that arises, it is not so, it is like this, if the nature that will arise in the future is not grasped, then, consciousness and the knowable grasp others, it is the same.
