Because it is not certain whether it is understood. If experienced, direct perception itself is not a valid means of cognition, but inference is. If it is said that because it is direct perception, it is unreasonable to say uncertain, then direct perception itself is only in the immediate vicinity, so uncertainty cannot be spoken of from there. For what is to come, direct perception itself is not like that. For that kind, because it is direct perception, it should not be argued that it is also direct perception for that. The object of inference is also that kind, which is the object of direct perception. There, what does direct perception enter, and for this, it is entering, this is the difference. There, brightness enters others, but here it enters itself, so it is not a common object of direct perception. No, because what is to come and what happens are not the same, and because it is not direct perception, they are the same in the common object. How is what is to come and what is seen understood as the same kind? If it is said that because it is seen in that way, then in all places, it is the understanding of brightness and others in common, so there is no difference between direct perception and inference. If it is said that what is to come will inevitably happen, therefore it is not uncertain, then where there is a cause, it will inevitably happen. Where there is a result, it will inevitably happen, which is very clear. It has been shown that the result that will inevitably happen is the cause itself. Therefore, for the entry of what is to come, there is no difference between direct perception and inference. If it is said that direct perception temporarily touches things, therefore it is a valid means of cognition, but inference is not, then this is also unreasonable. If there is no object to be obtained, there is no difference between error and non-error. If it is said that there is a difference between meaningful and meaningless, no, because without non-deception, one cannot understand meaningful and other. If it is said that direct perception has non-deception by others, even if there is no non-deception, it is the object of things, then this is also what is to be understood by inference, so there is no difference. Therefore, because thinking is non-deceptive, it is a valid means of cognition.

Grasping the object of root consciousness is not necessary. If it were not so, then direct perception itself would not become valid cognition. In this regard, it should be explained as follows: seeing a cognition in a different way, that is, through illusion, one can also see cognition. Or, if there is a meaning of entering, then from that, knowing in a different way, with a different nature, is also visible. How is it obtained? Because the object exists. Whatever exists is what should be obtained. For example, even groping with a hand in the dark, one can see obtaining. How is it determined? It is entirely dependent on the power of connection. Existence itself also depends on having a connected existence. How is the nature of having a connection known? If it also arises for direct perception, then how is the connection known? If it is said that because seeing is just like that, then it is the same in both, so there is no dispute. If it is said that direct perception itself is valid cognition there, because it generates conceptual thought. If it is said that because it generates inference, why not consider the previous direct perception as valid cognition? If it is said because it has passed. At the time when cognition arises, direct perception is only past. Cause and effect are not simultaneous, this will be shown. If it is said that at the time when conceptual thought arises, direct perception is continuously present, so there is a difference. It is not so, because the later moments of direct perception are not valid cognition. If it is said that the later ones are also valid cognition, if it were not so, then continuous arising would be uncertain. Then everything would become non-valid cognition, because there is no object to be obtained. If it is said that the previous ones generate certainty, then the later ones are not valid cognition. If there is doubt, then it is not certainty, and that is not doubt either, because certainty and otherness are not admitted on the same object. If it is said that the previous ones are definitely not valid cognition, if that is the case, because there is no entering, nothing is valid cognition. Seeing for a while, if one enters with the thought, "Is there attainment on this, or not?", then this is the same for inference as well. The cognition that wants to appear as direct perception is also seeing another nature in another way, it is entering.
