And that also returns again, and in that, in reality, because it does not exist, it is not something with inherent existence. What appears to the general mind is what is generally desired. If it becomes something without inherent existence, established as the nature of being without characteristics, then at that time it must necessarily become different from the mind, therefore it becomes universal, because it sees the nature of the universal. However, that is also a delusion about the meaning, and it must also be understood that it is a delusion in the same way that it is seen universally. Moreover, one's own appearance is not universal, because the ultimate of one's own appearance is one's own characteristic. However, that is because of the difference, because it is a confusion about the meaning. It must also be understood that it is certainly not the nature of the meaning. How is it said that this universal is its ultimate? It does not exist in meaning, just as it is understood to depend on it. Therefore, the very object of that nature is not something with inherent existence, it is not something with nature, because it is unbearable to examine in that way. If it is not so, then yellow and so on will also exist in white conch shells and so on. Therefore, the universal is not a thing. Because it is not something to be spoken of, the universal is not a thing. The universal is not something to be spoken of in that and in others. And it is not becoming a thing. Why? Because it is without inherent existence, it is not something to be spoken of. If from some speech, how do you want the things that are wanted? It is not something that is not spoken of. Whatever is not something to be spoken of in that and in others, that is without its own nature, and what has become a thing will inevitably become something to be spoken of in that or in others. If, because the universal is something to be spoken of outside of others, it is certain to become distinct, then will the universal become a thing? If it is clear that it is a thing, it will also become something to be spoken of in that and in others. Because it cannot be spoken of from that itself, it is not a thing. If it is because of the connection with that that it cannot be spoken of from that, then the things of cause and effect are a connection of difference, therefore the effect

Then everything is expressed in dependence on causes, which would not be established. Smoke is not produced from fire, nor can it be said to be the same as or different from fire. If it is said that because there is no difference in place, it cannot be expressed from the general manifestation, then, what is called place does not actually exist outside of things. If it appears as without difference, how can it become without difference? If it appears as difference, how can it be without difference? Therefore, apart from the same and different, there are no other things. Because it cannot be expressed from anything, things do not exist. It also cannot be expressed from other universals, because other universals have not been established as things. If it is said that because it is expressed as difference from conceptualization, it is a thing, then, rabbit horns, etc., would also necessarily become things because of their mutual difference. If it is said that they are different because they are produced from different proximate causes, but this is not actually the case. The minds of rabbit heads, etc., which have different proximate causes, are different, but not the rabbit horns, etc. themselves, then, what contradiction is there in saying this about this as well? Here, too, it is only because of the difference in the manifestation of the proximate cause that the mind has difference, but there is actually no difference in things. The explanation for this is: because the proximate cause is different, it is expressed as different, but it is not what the proximate cause has added. If the universal or manifestation is what is expressed by sounds, then the past and future would not become objects of expression. But this is not the case. Because: in the past and future, the cause of the universal in things, hearing, will also enter, how can existence become the dharma of non-existence? If it is said that when expressing past or future things, it is also through universal cognition, then, how can this existing universal become the dharma of non-existence of past and future things? Existence does not become the dharma of non-existence. If it is said that manifestation is the dharma of other existence, if one does not recognize its dharma, how can it become the past? The universal becomes the past because the manifestation is influenced by the past, but not by its own nature. Therefore, the universal is the past because it is related to the past. Therefore, without a doubt, the universal does not exist.
