O! If one is attached to a conch shell as silver, how does one enter the conch shell? Because the conch shell is also there, and that place is also manifestly apprehended. The realm of name and sign is not completely apprehended, because completely apprehending the realm would transform it into something other within the realm. If it is said that it is the realm of the foundational meaning, it is not so, because there is no distinction. If it is said that just as it is the realm of the conch shell and not of silver, it is the same here, it is not so, because silver does not exist, so there is no realm, but name and sign are not without a realm. Silver is imputed through seeing. Name and sign are not seen, because they are seen only at the time of imputation. Therefore, this is not entered through imputation. Just as a Brahmin boy mistakes something for fire, it is not apprehended by a confused mind either. If it is said that it is not because of being very familiar, how is it recognized as being very familiar? Because there is no valid cognition. If it is recognized through valid cognition, then it can be so termed, otherwise it is not. Otherwise, the term is not reasonable. If it is said that it should be examined by itself, then it is not without valid cognition, it is not so. Even if it is not so, it will be explained that it is because a term is applied. If it is said that from a sound arises knowledge that does not touch the object, but knows itself in its own form, then how does it enter the object? Know that it is not the same as that which can be expressed as the form of knowledge, because a confused mind arises. If it arises in this way through the power of habit, then because the one who applies the term assumes that one's own nature is an object existing in a realm with particularity, he enters, therefore there is no contradiction in this. In this way, as long as one enters by imputing one's own nature as an object, by that alone, this term is completely established, what else is needed? There are two kinds of discrimination in mistaking name and sign for objects: after recognizing, does one become more attached to the form of the object itself? Or does one not recognize? If one recognizes through the form of sound, thereby recognizing name and sign as one's own nature, then how can one recognize it as an object? Recognizing one's own nature is the other form.

It is not particularly attached to saying. Another situation is not like that, because only different aspects are different. Therefore, name and characteristic are not discriminations of objects. This aspect is not of the object, because it has no meaning. Name and characteristic are also not, because that is unreasonable. That aspect is the very nature of consciousness, and that is supreme. The very aspect of consciousness is considered to be the object itself, so what is the use of the remaining name and characteristic in between? If it is reasonable to say that consciousness has the aspect of an object because it arises from it, then how can it be said that name and characteristic have the aspect of an object? For the very possession of the aspect of an object, there is not even a little bit of valid cognition. If the aspect of the object is name and characteristic, then, since it itself is the object, the aggregates of sense faculties will not become meaningless. If it is also not the function of the object, then, if the aggregates of sense faculties are grasping the function of the object or possessing the result, that is also unreasonable. Because the function of the object is not grasped, it will become not the one who enters. If it is said that it enters from a special superimposition, then it has already been said that that special superimposition is the very aspect of consciousness. If it is not like that, then there are also other names and characteristics there, and because there are others for that too, it will become endless, so it cannot be answered. If it is thought that it is also mistaken there, then name and characteristic will become without measure. A mistaken consciousness does not discriminate objects. If the aspect itself is what discriminates objects, that is not right, because there is no reversal. Like the Sutra school, there is no establishment of reversal in establishing names and characteristics, because the mind that considers the object of names and characteristics arises only from attention and so on. If it is admitted that consciousness has the aspect of an object, then it should be the very aspect of the object. Why is the aspect not clear? It is not, because it produces some aspects of the differences of aggregates. Whatever aspect changes from whatever, that is not changed by all of itself, but by some parts that are similar.

like a son. If all knowledge is not the nature of things, then, the appearance of blue and so on that appears there is the thing itself. There, all the appearances of blue and so on are things, not knowledge. Therefore, all knowledge is related to things, because there is no self-appearance, from where does confusion arise? This appearance is not knowledge, because it appears as the nature of external objects, if you say so, that is not right. If you say that all knowledge is related to things, then, is this reasonable? Because in dreams and so on, it is seen in other ways, so it is not fabricated either. Because blue and so on appear. Because it is beginningless, so it is not blue and so on. Because the suitable place exists, so it is not understood. Because one understands oneself, so that is knowledge. Therefore, that is the expression of names and so on. Where does the pervasiveness that all knowledge is related to things come from? Just experiencing the appearance of what is in front of you is not related to things. If you think so, then there will be no distinction between confusion and non-confusion, because everything has an object. Even if it has an object, but because it cannot obtain the function of things, it is called confusion, if you say so. Then, even if there is no object, but because the function of things is obtained, why not directly call it correct? What is the truth here? No object is no object. Just like in dreams and so on, even if there is no object, but because you see holding what is in front of you, seeing it elsewhere cannot be said to have an object. If you say the opposite, why won't it change? This is also not right, because having an object itself is not established. Having an object itself is not established at any time. If it is said to be the state of being awake, then, because that state does not exist, knowledge there will become without an object. Therefore, this is uncertain, because in dreams and so on, other appearances are experienced. If the knowledge of dreams is also aimed at names and signs, then, the knowledge of dreams without an object cannot be established, if you say so. In response to this, it is said that the knowledge of dreams is not aimed at names and signs, but at the appearance of blue, and names and signs are
