In response to the question of whether the Blessed One taught the contemplation of suffering, the answer is: Considering the suffering of conditioned existence, it is said that suffering should be contemplated. What we speak of also arises from causes and conditions, and that is the basis for the view of selflessness. Liberation comes from the view of emptiness, and the remaining practice is for that purpose. Therefore, suffering arises from impermanence, and from suffering, selflessness is proclaimed. It is not that suffering is contemplated merely by considering the suffering of suffering, because for those with attachment, the pleasure of attachment would disappear merely by that, so in any case, in a way that is free from bias, the suffering of conditioned existence is also ultimately emptiness. Therefore, liberation comes from the view of emptiness alone. The remaining practice is for that purpose. Precisely for that reason, the teaching of the Blessed One is inclined towards emptiness. As it is said, "Monks, is form permanent or impermanent?" "Venerable, it is impermanent." "Whatever is impermanent, is it suffering or happiness?" "Venerable, it is impermanent, and whatever is impermanent is suffering, it is subject to change." For the sake of seeing that meaning, would there arise 'This is mine, this is I, this is self'?" "Venerable, no," it is said. Therefore, seeing selflessness in the objects of cause and effect is said to be the cause of liberation. Whoever clings to self is not free from attachment, and not being free from attachment and possessing attachment, and relying on all actions, being liberated from afflictions and karma, such a person is called a samsaric being. If the view of self exists, then the cause of samsara, the clinging to self, will not disappear. Therefore, clinging to self and what belongs to self is inevitably possessing attachment. Therefore, all actions rely on fabrication, and one who is not liberated from actions and afflictions is a samsaric being. So, is there a taste of liberation there? If what belongs to self does not exist in the ultimate sense, then does attachment exist? Attachment arises from an object. If there is no object, there will be no attachment. If you say that, that is not so. Whatever does not desire what belongs to self, there is no enjoyer of that. Having the characteristic of action and enjoyment, at that time there is no owner of that, even seeing what belongs to self.

How can it be proven that it does not exist? If it is said that everything is due to ignorance, that is not correct, because there is no ignorance that is different from the self. Ignorance is not other than the person (སྐྱེས་བུ་,梵文:puruṣa,梵文罗马拟音:purusha, meaning: person), because it is said that "all this is the person." Therefore, because ignorance is its own nature, this delusion will never disappear. The delusion that becomes its self is not separate from it, because that would lead to its own non-existence. The statement of both has also been refuted. Furthermore, if there is no self, then there will be no action and no enjoyer, because the self is the nature of action and enjoyment. If this is the ultimate truth, then this is also undesirable. If someone realizes the self in the ultimate truth, then who is it? If it is said that it is because it is cut off by reason, then everything will become the object of reason. Like dreams, etc. If it is said that it is because of habituation and does not exist, that is not reasonable, because the self will also become non-ultimate truth. If it is not non-dual, then at that time, because everything is non-dual, there will be no existence called "self," because the present perception only holds the nature and does not hold the permanence. Because the previous and subsequent perceptions do not exist simultaneously. Each one cannot realize permanence. Nor is it a collection, because memory is not valid cognition. If there is no perception, then there will be no inference. Therefore, seeing as self does not accomplish the desired meaning. Therefore, those who want liberation, for the sentient beings' views that arise from beginningless, causal, homogeneous seeds, uproot them from the root. Other than seeing as no-self, there is no situation that is complete with valid cognition, thus concluding. If no-self and its liberation are also established from the scriptures. That liberation is also the nature of unique bliss, and it will never disappear. The happiness of samsara is characterized by change, so complete satisfaction does not arise from it. That is also because it is established from the rituals such as empowerment, so all the previous disputes are gone. As it is said: Beyond the senses, not knowable, things seen by the eye.
