Otherwise, if semen is the cause of desire, then not taking virtues would also become desire. If taking virtues is also a limb, then everything would become taking virtues, because everything has the cause of taking virtues. If merely having virtues is not taking virtues, then from what does one take virtues? If taking virtues is without an object, then it would become due to beginningless habits, because habit itself is desire and so on. Furthermore, in whatever state one abides, in that state of desire, it will not become hatred, because desire and hatred themselves are dissimilar and have contradictory natures. For one abiding in a nature contradictory to that, it does not change. If it is said that it does not change, that is also not reasonable, because there is no certainty seen in this. Or, if that is the nature of both, then both would also necessarily occur simultaneously. If it is said that it is like that, that is not so, because certainty is seen. There is no certainty seen in this that they occur simultaneously. If it is said that just as dust and so on sometimes arise when one is in the nature of bile, but not all the time, so too are desire and so on, that is not so. Dust arises from being connected with fire; without that, it does not arise. Desire and so on, and form and so on, do not exist in the same way from a cause. If it exists, because it is complete, the existence or non-existence of desire and so on is the same. If it is said that it is connected with the habit that has been made an internal aid, and is the opposite of certainty, if that is the case, then habit itself is the cause of desire and so on. The aid of desire also exists because habit exists. Or, again, if something arises from the difference in the habits of desire and so on, then how does this fault not occur for that? It is said: Whatever desire and so on, relies on the difference in similar habits, and then enters, for that, this fault does not occur. Because whenever desire and so on enter from the fault of habit itself, therefore, for whom, from whom it arises, having a habit related to another, just from that, at some times, in some ways.

Because some cause makes it awaken. If the predispositions of desire and so on are uncertain, since they do not depend on form and so on, there is no opportunity for the previous fault. If attachment and so on are not faulty dharmas, but become arising dharmas, then? It is said: This refutes the nature of arising, because it refutes the basis. White and so on do not depend on earth and so on. These are the characteristics of the elements such as earth, for example, if earth and water are predominant, it is desire. Fire and wind are hatred. Water and wind are ignorance, and whatever is said is also refuted, because it is not definite in all cases. Thus, in whatever situation, one desires to have attachment, as it is said. Existence and non-existence do not have a basis, and so on, which also refutes the basis. If, just as white and so on depend on the great elements, desire and so on are also like that, then the answer to that is: White and so on do not depend on earth and so on. If it depends on earth and so on, then at that time, if one admits that it is different from the arising of form and so on, it will harm the admission that it is only arising. If one only admits that it is arising, then it is not a dependent and a basis. If consciousness depends on arising, then at that time, it will excessively become many. If it is not different, then the arising will become one, because it is not different from one consciousness. If one admits that it depends on the arising of form and so on, is it contradictory to negate the dependent and the basis? No, because the meaning of dependence is not the meaning of the basis, but the meaning of cause. That is explained: Is that word 'dependent' the meaning of cause? Or because it exists without difference from its own basis, it is dependent, otherwise it is not reasonable. The meaning of dependence is not the meaning of the basis, but the meaning of cause. For example, cause and effect together are not perceived simultaneously. For simultaneous things, the effect and so on are definitely not there. Therefore, it is not a dependent and a basis.
