It is a convention with the characteristic of acting. If asked, what is it like? Just like making treatises, etc., it is the convention of "va ni ni," etc., which arises from convention. Following that convention, those with names like "Dang Tsulchenpa," such as the disciples of "Nini," etc., and terms with names of increase and merit, etc. Why? Because it depends on the treatises. If worldly terms also become established by their own nature, then there is no need for other teachings and it is also dependent. Therefore, it does not arise from the connection of sound and meaning made by humans, but rather from convention itself. It is also not reasonable to understand the meaning of the Vedas from terms arising from conventional sounds. If, like this, it is promised to understand the meaning of the Vedas from worldly teachings, that is also unreasonable. Because the connection of sound and meaning of the Vedas, which is not made by humans, is not reasonable to be taught by others. Why? Because the meaning of the Vedas is something that no one can know. Not knowing the meaning of the Vedas is also because it is beyond the scope of the senses. If the meaning of the Vedas is something that can be grasped by the senses, then promising that the meaning of the Vedas is something that can be grasped by the senses, then it would lead to understanding all the meanings of the Vedas oneself without teaching. For example, form, etc., is something that can be grasped by the senses, so it can be understood without teaching, just like that. If that is the case, in order to determine the meaning of the Vedas, one must rely on human teachings, in order to determine the meaning of the Vedas. If one relies on teachings, then the lecturers of the Vedas, those who are self-righteous, are overwhelmed by desire, etc., and because they do not have correct knowledge, they act as they please, and it is impossible to teach the truth as it is without deceiving. Because the meaning of the Vedas is unreliable and uncertain. With a teacher who does not understand, one cannot teach the truth as it is.

No! Commentary on the Pramāṇavārttika, Chapter Thirty-seven. If it is said that it is taught by the person's own will. However, like the Vedas, the explanation of the Vedas and the non-human-made, beginningless oral transmission of the characteristics of the true oral transmission, which comes from constant recitation, as it is said, the meaning of the Vedas is accomplished from this. If this is thought, the answer is "that is also" and so on. The explanation of the Vedas is also the nature of sound, if it is the nature of sound, then how can it be said that the meaning of this non-human-made explanation of the Vedas is knowledge? Arguing and examining with the Vedas is the same. Like the Vedas, its explanation is also uncertain in meaning. Therefore, as explained, from where is the meaning of the Vedas determined? For the time being, the teachings made by humans themselves do not have this fault. Because through human agreement and the sound of common usage, the meaning of that sound, such as the word "grasping from the horn", the meaning of this word is this, thus completely determining the difference. Not understanding, that is, the person does not understand, making them understand. In this way, the sounds made by humans can understand the meaning and grasp the main points, but the sounds not made by humans are not. In this way, how can the sounds not made by humans be understood by people with afflictions such as desire? It is not done that way. Or, other people, with afflictions such as desire, or some people, for the meaning beyond the senses, in some cases, because they cannot know the connection of this non-human-made sound, so its meaning, that is, the meaning of the Vedas, is impossible to understand. In addition, the Vedas and its explanation are non-human-made, which is also superfluous. Even so, if it is indicated by people with afflictions such as desire, even if it is indicated, now it will still follow the indestructible true oral transmission, for this statement, there is no definite measure at all, but it must rely on oaths and so on. Why? Because people will destroy the teachings, what method will be used to change it?
