Because, the explanation of the meaning of the Vedas by kings, diviners, etc., will lead to the consequence of being fruitless. It is impossible for all people to understand the meaning merely by hearing the Vedas. Therefore, the meaning of the Vedas cannot be fully understood. Because it is so, therefore the Vedas are said to be 'not having the meaning of being fully understood,' which is a superfluous word. Just as the superfluous flesh between the crown of the head and the chin is called 'superfluous.' Similarly, the sound of the Vedas is also fruitless because it cannot be fully understood, and like superfluous flesh, it is superfluous. Because there is doubt about 'Is this the meaning? Or is this not the meaning?' Therefore, the obvious removal of the sting of faith is the cause of suffering. Therefore, for the person who accepts the Vedas, suffering is inevitable. What kind of suffering is this? It is the suffering of being bound by the root of incorrect views. Therefore, some with great compassion are also happy to eliminate this suffering through contemplation, and they engage in refutation. Precisely because it does not have the meaning of being fully understood, the statement 'One who desires heaven should offer sacrifices to the fire' comes from the sound of the Vedas. The statement 'Eat dog meat' is not the meaning, but refers to another meaning that one wants to express. Here, there is no evidence whatsoever. Therefore, through 'meaning' etc., one explains 'One who desires heaven should offer sacrifices to the fire.' Or, for those meanings that one wants to express, some words are neither close nor related, because they seek the separation of things, so neither exists. In such speech, there will be a special emphasis on fire. Just as 'One should pour in refined ghee etc.' is the meaning, and 'One should eat dog meat' is not the meaning, this is not a distinction. As has been said, does this not apply equally to all scriptures made by humans? In order to illustrate this,

It is said, mentioning "what has become" and so on. Whatever word has a hidden indicator, that is called "that." Just like "according to the meaning of their thoughts," it refers to the meaning that the indicator wants to reveal. For a person who has not seen the indicator, will I now understand, and will I correctly understand? Or the opposite, that is, completely contrary to the indicator's thought, because there is no such certainty, so one thinks: I doubt everything. Answering with "no" and so on, it is not that it will be too excessive in every aspect. Why? Because the explainer, that is, the intention of the author of the treatise will become clear, the one who initially made it clear will say to the listeners present at that time: The meaning of this word of intention is this. Those listeners will also indicate to others, and those people will also indicate to others, in this way, the correct mantra, that is, the guru's mantra, the lineage can exist. This meaning of the characteristic of expressing intention does not exist in the Vedic sounds called "without an indicator," because they do not acknowledge any indicator. Through this, how can there be a well-known meaning for things created by a person? Because the author of the treatise is spoken by someone who is known by the world to have intention, and not by someone without intention. Having the intention to be known by the world, that is, having the intention that "the world should understand me." When someone with such an intention speaks, for any word that is commonly used in the world, he will greatly maintain and protect this well-known usage. If it is not like this, then his teaching will become fruitless. By maintaining the commonly used worldly saying, its meaning will also be understood, and the meaning of the treatise created by a person will be established. Moreover, through the word "also," the correct mantra mentioned earlier can also exist. The sound not created by a person will not achieve meaning in the manner described above. Why? Because for the Vedic sound, no person wants to speak, because...

Because it is desired to explain the basis of reasoning. Thus, for the time being, because there are correct instructions and so on, one fully understands the meaning of all the deeds done by the holy person. It has been said that there is no similar fault. Now, following the path of reasoning, grasping the characteristics of the scriptures, it is said, "Others also," and so on. The wise Buddhist disciples who prioritize contemplation will support and follow the path of reasoning itself, that is, the very principle of reason, and through analysis and research, they will engage in abandoning what should be abandoned, and so on. What should be abandoned, together with its basis, should be abandoned, and what should be accepted, together with its basis, should be accepted, this is the meaning. Among them, what should be abandoned is suffering. What should be accepted is liberation. Their bases are, in order, karma and afflictions, and the realization of suchness. Therefore, sounds and so on have various meanings, therefore, Buddhist disciples, for those who possess reasoning,
