Thus, that which is similar in dharma to what is to be established is that which possesses origination. Thus, it possesses origination and is also a pot. Because of the cause of that which is similar in dharma to what is to be established, that which possesses its dharma, that is, possessing whatever dharma is desired to be established, is a synonym. If only dharma is to be established, then that which is similar in dharma to what is to be established will become contradictory. If there is no other dharma besides the dharma to be established, then what will become an example with similarity in dharma? That itself is explained by "thus" and so on. That is possessing origination and so on. Because if the dharma to be established does not have the dharma of possessing origination and so on, then that dharma, the dharma to be established, does not have the characteristic of possessing that dharma even in the example. However, is the collection, which is not the dharma or the possessor of dharma to be established separately, but the collection of those, what is to be established? That which is to be established as two is either the possessor of dharma to be established distinguished by the difference of the possessor of dharma, or the possessor of dharma distinguished by the difference of dharma, both of which are to be established. At that time, the reason and so on are explained by this, such as "it is just like that." Relying on this position that the possessor of dharma distinguished by dharma is to be established, it is said that the possessor of dharma of such a kind is distinguished by what is to be established. "Other" means the opponent. If the reason of the other is established in the possessor of dharma of such a kind, then the statement of the establisher becomes meaningless. By "possessing impermanence" and so on, the object of the definition of the example is shown, that is, the similarity in dharma between the possessor of dharma distinguished by impermanence and the example is not established in the other. "It is explained by the sound of what is to be established" means that in the definition of the example, it is explained by the sound of dharma as what is to be established. The definition of the reason is explained by the sound of the subject.

The ground should be examined. The term "the very word spoken is the thesis" refers to the words of the thesis. Because, for the subject that has differences that one wants to know, being suitable as one part of the thesis's side, having abandoned the non-pervasive and the over-pervasive, the characteristic of the thesis is established. When apprehending the subject that is suitable as one part of the thesis's side, it is established by apprehending the imputed dharma of the thesis, but it is not the word of what is to be proven, because even if it is not established for it, it is like dust. What is to be proven is also said to be the nature of the vow made by others, therefore, in order for others to understand the subject on one part of the thesis's side, it is not the utterance of words. The term "must be apprehended beforehand" refers to the fact that for the previous words, it is only necessary to apprehend, because it is the result of what must be apprehended. Here, the thesis is what must be apprehended. Similarly, for the term "must be apprehended later," it should also be examined. Here, explaining what is to be proven is what must be apprehended. There are two kinds of results of what must be apprehended beforehand, namely, explaining what is to be proven is the thesis, but not explaining what is established. Among them, the first result is averted by "for a while," and so on. The second is explained by "other," and so on. The term "having the result of completely cutting off the non-possessing" means that explaining what is to be proven is the thesis, or not the thesis, which is the cutting off of the non-possessing. Therefore, in order to show that the thesis has no certainty, it will lead to faults, so the reason and the example are said to be unestablished. The logician says that the thesis and the reason are contradictory, and so on. The teacher establishes the contradiction between the thesis and the reason by "the contradiction of the thesis and the reason," and so on. The term "not possessing together with the dharma to be proven" means that for the subject to be proven, because there is no dharma to be proven, it should be examined as not possessing together with the dharma to be proven. For this very reason, it is said, "The desire and the absence are unestablished." Because when the subject exists, it is only contradictory to the desired dharma.
