If space were to become permanent, sounds, etc., should arise simultaneously because the cause is always near, but it is not so. The word "etc." refers to the fact that the directions are not the cause of simultaneous arising of cognitions, and time is not the cause of simultaneous and long-lasting cognitions. Such things should be understood. The reason is only to eliminate, not to produce results in succession, because it is not established on space, etc., which are not real. Therefore, it is said that the reason is the nature of elimination. The nature of non-reality of the subject of space, etc., is also the same as that. It means that the reason also establishes that space, etc., are not the nature of reality. The so-called "that" is explained by becoming the nature of reality, such as space, etc. If so, how? "Because simultaneous sounds, etc., have no cause." If this reason establishes non-reality, then, thinking like this, how can the cause of simultaneous sounds, etc., not be considered the cause of successive sounds, etc., now? Because it is not considered that space, etc., are permanent. Therefore, in fact, it is contradictory to act successively and simultaneously, so the meaning of the reason abides in this. The nature of the reason for elimination is not unestablished, which means that the reason "because simultaneous sounds, etc., have no cause" is only the nature of elimination, and it is not the nature of mere negation that is not established. Even if there is no subject that has become real, for the subject of name, there is no harm to mere elimination. At that time, here it is said to the Samkhya school, etc. The word "etc." in "because simultaneous sounds, etc., have no cause" refers to touch and form, taste and smell, because they admit that these are the results of happiness, etc. Here, the reason is not only elimination, but on the contrary, it is the cause of successive sounds, etc., therefore successively.

Therefore, it will be explained by what is called "taking becoming as the reason itself." Because "happiness and so on are of the nature of impermanence" itself, by negating permanence, impermanence is implied, because things have no other form. This is his intention. "Doubting the reversal from the dissimilar side" means that in order to prove that happiness and so on do not have the nature of impermanence, permanence becomes the dissimilar side. Therefore, because it gradually produces results, this reason doubts the reversal. If gradually producing results is pervaded by impermanence itself, why not say "doubting the reversal"? It should be said like this: Is it not the case that impermanence does not reverse because impermanence does not exist and has become the dissimilar side? That is true, but others do not think so, so it is said in their view. "The previous reason" is like, for example: "The nature that did not exist before is not produced by another." What is said by this and so on does not want to produce effects gradually, nor is it simultaneous, so because it is separate from the action of meaning, this itself is the entity of the reason. Moreover, on other occasions, pervasion should be shown many times. "Unestablished particular, etc." means that the extremely unestablished particular is like, for example, when Buddhists say to Samkhyas, "Sound is destructible." Because the meaning of saying that sound is destructible is not established for Samkhyas. The unestablished basis of the particular is like, for example, when Vaisheshikas say to Buddhists, "The self is pervasive." Both are unestablished, such as "The self is the cause of the collection of aggregates." "Because it is not a proof" means that just as those given by direct perception and so on are not proofs, so it is with this, therefore, because there is no cause of proof, the semblance of a reason is stated. If someone asks why the authors such as Delightful Lord and so on did not explain the nature of happiness and so on in the Compendium of Valid Cognition, this is what he is thinking from within.
