It should be understood as "making that." The so-called "inference of fame" refers to fame that is related to desire. Whatever follows desire is established as something that can be expressed with the sound of desire. Therefore, from the perspective of the nature of characteristics, whatever can be expressed with the sound of desire has the dharma that can be inferred. The knowledge that possesses that object is inference here. Because that knowledge itself is produced through fame, the "inference of fame" is shown through fame. It arises without conventional agreement. In this way, what can be expressed with the sound of desire is itself related to conventional agreement. Therefore, because it is related to desire, it is a universally existing inference. This reason can be clarified with reasoning. Because it has already been conventionally agreed upon in the initial meaning, it is said that the expression of genus applies to things. Therefore, it is the initial meaning of genus, and there, it does not rely on other reasons, so it will become an arbitrary sound. The so-called "damage of commitment and fame," the second sentence is because one's own words and trusted words are regarded as one. The so-called "those two damages" refer to the damage of commitment and fame. For example, in "the measure of measurable meaning," etc., it is establishing the tenets of collecting all treatises on valid cognition. For example, "merely through commitment," etc., refers to the treatise that relies on the occasion and one's own words. The debater merely commits to being valid cognition, and that is the concluding word. This itself is explained with the treatise and one's own words, etc. If it is again one's own, etc., in this way, if it is established as valid cognition by the characteristic of not deceiving meaning, then, because the inference has already been established, it will become damage. Similarly, the damage of trust and the cause are indicated by the phrase "fame arising from sound." Isn't there two of this, referring to the self-characteristic and the general characteristic, but it is the self-characteristic. The so-called directly perceived meaning

That which is called "this" refers to the Compendium on Valid Cognition (Pramāṇasamuccaya). That which is called "the sense faculty of the ear as its object" refers to the very nature of sound. It will be taught in this way: because the nature of sound, which is to be apprehended by ear consciousness, is the very object of the ear, it is hearing. However, he vows that it is not hearing. That is also because it is determined by direct perception, it is harmed by direct perception. The ear and sound are the relation of the nature of the apprehender and the apprehended, the meaning of sound is not hearing. Therefore, whatever is said by the elucidators and others that sound is not hearing, that is harmful to inference, because it prevents the relation. Thus, the relation of the ear and sound is to be understood by direct perception, therefore, that is said by those who do not understand the meaning of sound, it should be understood in this way. In order to show that point, therefore, it is said "sound together with the ear" and so on. That which is called "the nature of such an existence" means the abiding of its own nature. That which is called "that" refers to the nature of sound. That which is called "the thing established by its power" is the thing established from the power of ear consciousness. That which is called "its own property" is what is said as its own property in the Compendium on Valid Cognition. Therefore, that which is called "by mentioning harm" also means by mentioning harm to the dharma. That which is called "not space etc." refers to showing the property. The explanation of this is "space etc.". The word "etc." includes direction and time etc. For example, "a nature that did not exist before is not produced by another", this is explaining the dharma to be established. The explanation of this is "the co-acting conditions" etc. What is to be established here is only distinction, not excellence by reversal. That point is clarified by "abiding in the nature of one" etc. Because "simultaneous sounds etc. are not the cause" refers to the sound.
