Explanation of the Commentary on Valid Cognition, sixty-one fascicles. Because it is one's own, it is for one's own sake. By what means one can infer for oneself, that is understanding. Because it is another's, it is for the sake of others, by what means one causes others to understand. Valid cognition is infallible knowledge. Is the inference previously described not also valid cognition? Therefore, since it has been admitted that it is also the nature of knowledge, then for whom is it for the sake of others. Because the nature of what is for the sake of others is speech. If it is asserted that the nature of speech is also valid cognition, then this would contradict the previously mentioned knowledge, and would also contradict the word "likewise." If this is thought, then this fault does not exist. In this way, relying on actual valid cognition, it is spoken in this way, and closely attributed, it is precisely for the sake of inference for the sake of others. Here, the phrase "entering the occasion of inference for one's own sake" means that because direct perception has just been shown, it becomes the occasion for entering inference for one's own sake. What has been shown previously refers to the first chapter. The necessity that has been shown previously refers to composing the commentary on the second chapter. When the first chapter of the Commentary on Valid Cognition explains the chapter on inference for one's own sake from the Compendium on Valid Cognition, when it is shown in this way, in this treatise it should be stated in this way: Inference is of two kinds, the chapter on inference is called the chapter on inference. That is of two types, namely for one's own sake and for the sake of others. That is, the chapter on inference for one's own sake and the chapter on inference for the sake of others. Because for what is to be said, what is to be said is closely attributed. Here, the phrase "entering the occasion of inference for one's own sake" means that the third chapter of the Commentary on Valid Cognition explains the chapter on direct perception from the Compendium on Valid Cognition, and here the chapter on inference for one's own sake will be explained, which is precisely the meaning of entering that occasion. What has been shown previously refers to what has already been explained in the first chapter. Now, for the sake of others

The inference remains, therefore it is called 'that,' which means that the chapter on inferring the meaning of others is about to be explained and remains. 'Self' refers to the argument that the opponent uses to establish. 'Seeing' is complete certainty, that is, understood through valid cognition. 'Meaning' is the reason with three characteristics. If, for the object to be inferred, it also becomes the meaning seen by oneself, then a commitment is not possible. Because when establishing what is to be established, the combination itself does not exist, therefore it is said that this is not included here. In order to show the ability, the word is associated with inference, but showing the object to be inferred is not the ability, and if not, then what is it? That is also because it is contained by the word 'meaning,' so that word becomes the inference of the meaning of others itself. If it is said that any expression is certain for both, both establishing and refuting, then why is it said that the meaning seen by oneself is clear? The answer is: there is no fault, because seeing by oneself makes the meaning clear, but not seeing does not, by distinguishing incompatible things to determine. Therefore, even if one has not seen it oneself, one can establish what others have seen, and in order to refute this view, it is said that one has seen it oneself. For this, seeing by oneself is itself, and not seeing, this determination will be consistent with conformity. In fact, although the opponents and refuters previously establish the meaning determined by valid cognition, the refuter forgets what is contained and will also fall into the bad state of words. Anyone who determines by saying 'seen by oneself,' then what he determines is to prevent others from seeing.
