In order to dispel the doubts of the school that says (everything) is internal (consciousness), (the text says) "The object appearance is not valid cognition." This treatise is like this. Saying that external objects exist, relying on self-awareness being the result, then the very consciousness that appears as an object is valid cognition, but the aspect of grasping is not. Like the phrase "How from it are there other proximate causes," it refers to form and appearance, etc., being proximate causes. The phrase "If there is not that" refers to if there is no sense faculty. Thus, for the time being, saying that the object is also a cause, it means that now when the sense faculty and attention are close, consciousness will not arise in the empty space for blue, etc. As previously said, done by the habits of internal consciousness, here also it can be said that the result is reversed, but this is said after admitting it. Like "How the aspect of grasping is valid cognition" is going to be explained, (the text says) "Those are the results of valid cognition, the aspect of grasping is experience." Here, the aspect of grasping is valid cognition. "The appearing one is the object to be measured," etc., is saying to combine with the chapters of (Tsad ma kun las btus pa). "In the Compendium of Valid Cognition, 'the appearing one,' etc., what is the chapter of the treatise that is going to be explained, that is the meaning of combining with it." "If mantras, etc.," etc., refers to becoming the nature of hands, etc. Because it is like this, therefore, although it does not exist in the ultimate sense, "the grasped and the grasper are consciousness" means that there is not a truly existing knower's nature in the ultimate sense. "The object to be measured, the result of measurement abides" means that if it is not truly existent, even so, this is the meaning of establishing the aspects of the object to be measured, the measuring instrument, etc. "Thus, the difference of existence, can take near example" means that where things exist, that is the sign that the difference of the difference that wants to be there can take near example, where things exist, it is called that. For example, happiness and suffering, etc., is because its difference is existence. Thus, for one consciousness, if there are also differences such as the object to be measured, then, happiness

It should be inferred in many ways, just like the word "etc." If it has the special form of knowledge, then thinking of it as one, happiness, etc., will also become one. But this is not desirable, because it has been mentioned that "happiness, etc., are other." It is also unreasonable to think of it as one, because for the nature of non-dual consciousness, one is unreasonable. Just as consciousness completely determines it, the nature cannot therefore become one, it should be explained in this way. Because there is no reason to see the nature as one, the thought of "because of delusion" should be eliminated from the heart. The form of grasping, because it is its nature, is the nature of complete determination, because it is the nature of self-realization, this is its meaning. Because of that reason, it is self-awareness, the thought that "the form of grasping is distinctively established" should be eliminated from the heart. In this way, establishing self-awareness as the result, what can be established is the form of grasping, this is its meaning. It itself is the nature of experience, it is clear, it will be explained by "it is clear," etc. Through "its subject is the inference with an object," etc., the meaning summarized by this passage is that, for the view that knowledge is on the inner side, the statement that "the measurable, the measuring, and the result exist," for those who assert external things, greed, etc., should also be linked to the previously mentioned self-awareness direct perception, that is, asserting that self-awareness direct perception is inner knowledge, and the establishment of the measurable, the measuring, and the result are the same, this is the meaning. It itself is, here, it will be explained by "merely consciousness," etc. Some people think that sometimes they are contradictory, this is because Dharmakirti said that greed, etc., are self-awareness, therefore, self-awareness with the nature of function is said to be a valid cognition with the nature of result. Now, thinking that the form of grasping is reasonable and saying that it is a valid cognition, this is contradictory, because it is due to the inverted superimposition on the meaning.
