The view that "it exists in its own continuum" is linked to the statement that the teacher does not accept the two measures (प्रमाण, pramāṇa, measure). The meaning summarized here is that the universal is also, the self-characteristic is also, therefore, the self-characteristic of the universal, is a measure, the teacher does not think so. However, at the time of direct perception (प्रत्यक्ष, pratyakṣa, direct perception), whatever can realize its own nature, self-characteristic, characteristics, and function is the self-characteristic. Similarly, at the time of inferential perception (अनुमान, anumāna, inferential perception), whoever is attached to its nature, whatever can realize the self-characteristic and characteristic function of hidden things is the universal characteristic. This is a distinction between the two measures from the perspective of other meanings. Therefore, just as it is said that there is no other measure than direct perception and hidden things, there is no other measure than self-characteristic and universal characteristic. This is clarified by "the self-nature of the self-characteristic is the consciousness of direct perception," etc., because the consciousness of direct perception realizes the self-characteristic, so from the perspective of self-characteristic and self-nature, the thing called direct perception is said to be the self-characteristic. The "that" in it refers to the thing itself. The so-called "speaking of the universal" means deriving from it "speaking of the self-characteristic of the universal." The reason for speaking of the self-characteristic is that because the manifested universal is augmented, it is said to be the self-characteristic closely. The so-called "the function to be accomplished" refers to the universal to be accomplished. This is only said after acknowledging it, but there is actually nothing to be accomplished. The so-called "by realizing the meaning of its object" refers to realizing the object of inference, that is, the self-characteristic of the universal. The so-called "afterward" means that after realizing the universal, one will no longer enter the self-characteristic of fire. The so-called "will not enter" means that previously it was acknowledged to enter the universal, and the entry into external fire, etc. was prevented, and now the entry into the universal is also prevented. Afterward, one will not enter the fire, or

Regarding the explanation of the ground, examples include "completely cutting off the vase," and so on. Just as after completely cutting off the vase, the object to be proven, which is attached to the state of completely cutting off the vase, will not become cloth, similarly, after universally cutting off, the object to be proven will not become its own characteristic, which is the meaning of what is being prevented. Entering from subsequent inference is showing the reversal. The second question is, what is the view that considers the cognition of another's essence as mistaken? That is, what is the view that considers the second cognition, other than the cognition of one's own characteristics, as mistaken? What is the reason for its entry? The "essence of another" is mentioned, meaning the universal essence. The so-called "clear essence of it" refers to its own characteristics, that is, the form of the object perceived by subsequent inference of conceptual thought, the cognition that arises from clinging to one's own characteristics, which is the meaning of one's own characteristics. It is said that because of the cognizer's clinging, it cognizes its clear essence, but that cognition is not so, because it holds an unreal form. The word "mistake also" in the scripture, and "mirages, etc." are explained alternately, for the consciousness with mirages, etc. as its object, it is expressed with the words mirages, etc. Therefore, the special phenomenon that mistakenly thinks it is the cause of water is expressed with the words mirages, etc. Just as the consciousness with mirages, etc. as its object is mistaken, therefore it is not valid cognition, similarly, the consciousness of inference is also like that. Although it wants to become like that, but because it has no ability to universally produce an effect, therefore clinging to it as an object and entering, that will not become valid cognition. The universal form can also cognize its own characteristics. Therefore, what is used to reverse that it itself is valid cognition? Therefore, in order to eliminate this cognition, the word "also" in "mistake also" is used. This word "also" will be explained with "universal," etc., that is, using other forms to cognize other things.
