That is to be applied to the general characteristics. It means that it will be explained by the verses that will be explained. That is, it will be explained by "What is truly capable of functioning?" etc. In short, mentioning the ability to function is to approximate the expression. Although it is so, if the question is raised by "everything" etc., this is to welcome the view of the Madhyamikas. They understand it in this way: for the time being, the permanent, non-momentary is not able to function, because it is contradictory to function in sequence and simultaneously. The momentary that has already ceased is also not able to function, because it is non-existent. The unceased is also not, because it would lead to the simultaneous production of cause and effect. There is nothing other than the ceased and the unceased. For the time being, the existing fruit does not arise, because existence itself contradicts arising. The non-existent is also not, because there is no basis for its arising, and there is no difference from non-existence, so all non-existent things would arise simultaneously from one cause. If that is the case, the very act of producing the non-existent would become the nature of the cause, just as it is with the obvious fruits such as sprouts, it would also be like rabbit horns etc. Therefore, ultimately, there is not the slightest thing that can function. Seeds etc. for sprouts etc. are called "able to see." Mentioning "see" is to approximate the expression. Thus, by reversing the fruit, it is possible to infer the function of the eye etc. in eye consciousness etc. Merit and demerit are considered to be able to produce agreeable and disagreeable results, and the objects of cause and effect are very famous in the world, so it is certain. Therefore, if one denies that things can function, it will contradict direct perception, inference, commitment, and fame. This is their idea. Although it is so, if they think that it is conventional, then, because they acknowledge the objects of cause and effect in the conventional, there is no contradiction with direct perception etc. This is their idea. What is to be expressed is:

Saying "because it is not pervasive, it is not a characteristic" means that not entering is itself not pervasive, because for some things to be explained, there is actually no function. Therefore, because of non-existence, it becomes not a characteristic. Saying "for the general, there is also that" means being able to function, and it also generates its own consciousness in the conventional. Saying "because of being extremely pervasive" means because of being excessive. Becoming a mixed characteristic means that the general also becomes its own characteristic because of doing things. Saying "how does it become like that" means that if it is admitted that the conventional can also function, then it is considered a real thing. It means that, like this, merely being able to function, being separated from expression, and the opposite of this, which is called conventional, is also what the Madhyamikas should accept, and that alone is the characteristic of a real thing. When expressing with the words conventional and ultimate, being able to function is not considered different because of the power of words. Regarding the discriminations of destruction and non-destruction, etc., the objects of cause and effect spoken by the Blessed One Tathagata do not exist. Like this, the Blessed One taught, "If this exists, then this arises," thereby abandoning the three discriminations and accepting the fourth discrimination. Like this, discrimination is that the effect exists before from the cause, or exists simultaneously with the cause, or is interrupted by another moment, because it is the producer of the third moment. If it is not interrupted, it exists in the second moment, and there will be four situations. Among them, existing in the previous time, if the cause exists, it will not arise, because it has already been established from the beginning. Simultaneous arising is also not that if the cause exists, it arises, because that also exists. Like this, simultaneity means that when there is no effect, the cause also does not exist, and if the cause exists, then the effect also exists. Existing in the third moment, etc., is also not that if the cause exists, it arises, because
