It is. That which changes its nature into another nature is that which changes from its own nature into another nature. That which is done by a sudden cause is said to be fruitful. For example, grasping a rope as a snake, and so on. That which is done by a sudden cause, in the realm of illusion, enters into the form of a snake, and has a change from its own nature to another nature, is how the sentences are connected. 'Reversal' means the reason for reversal. That is, the abiding nature is the reason for the reversal of change, and it will be explained as such. 'Taking close to what is similar to oneself' means entering into a similar basis. The cause of similarity is inverted knowledge. The term 'extremely incapable of arising' means that even if those who constantly enter, etc., arise, they are not stable, like mistaking a drawing for a yaksha. Extreme arising is pervasive in that it is devoid of the essence of being able to generate harm. The opposite of this is also the essence of being able to generate harm. Thus, that which pervades is the contradictory object. 'Direct perception and inference, according to the conditions' means that, for example, when explaining the continuum, in order to make manifest another moment that is very different in nature from the previous one, by the direct perception of what is called 'non-apprehension,' the impermanence of the cause is established, and by its power, the selflessness is established. Then, at the time of the stages of meditation, direct perception is the cause of harm with the characteristic of seeing selflessness. When, after establishing selflessness with the sign of being made, etc., one gradually engages in thinking and meditation, etc., at that time, inference is also the cause. 'Contradiction' means that both exist. Just as the habituation of the path is contradictory to the arising of faults, the self of faults is also contradictory to the arising of the path. If they are equally contradictory, then the path arises in the self of faults, so why does the habituation of the path not give rise to faults?

Thus he thought. "Superior seeing" means the wisdom that focuses on selflessness. "Effort is also made through the gate of seeing faults" means that if one makes effort to prevent something, when one sees the fault in it, one makes effort because it has the nature of fault and should be abandoned. "Faults are all inverted" means that they do not have the nature of virtue. If one makes effort again, does the view that is transformed by the power of virtue also change by the power of virtue? It is said, "Although possessing diligence." The rest is the same as before. The explanation of this verse should be understood as the distinctions contained in the first chapter. This is the meaning. "Although attachment and hatred are definitely contradictory," it is thought that these two are contradictory because they do not coexist. With the reasoning that they have the same cause, if there is the cause of "view of the aggregates of destruction" among attachment and hatred, then one of attachment or hatred will arise. When that cause arises from it, it will definitely change due to proximity. Thus, if there is, then the result that will arise. "From that" means from the cause of "view of the aggregates of destruction." "Others, etc." means any one of attachment and hatred, etc. If so, since attachment and hatred have the same cause, why do they not arise simultaneously? It is said, "Not arising simultaneously also," etc. Like the example of fire and smoke arising from one kind of wood, when the moment of fire arises later from the moment of wood that arises simultaneously with the previous moment of fire, then they are born from one kind of wood. The things that are harmed and the things that harm are definitely pervaded by the nature of different causes, and what contradicts that is also the nature of the same cause, so the pervader contradicts.

English

That is the object of focus. "Self-view" and "self-attachment" are distinctions of terms. "Attachment to the perishable aggregate" means that which is perishable is called perishable, meaning complete destruction. "Aggregate" is the gathering of the five aggregates of close acquisition, meaning attachment to the five impermanent aggregates. Due to the power of extreme habituation, whatever harms each other is not pervasive of the entities of cause and effect. Conversely, that which is contrary to this is also the entity of cause and effect; thus, the second combination also pervades the contradictory object of focus itself. "Loving-kindness and impurity, etc." means that impurity is the wisdom of various aspects that thoroughly despises the object that is the basis of desire. By mentioning "etc.," it includes mindfulness of breathing in and out, etc. However, as long as the habituation of minds that are not of the same type remains, it means that loving-kindness, etc., the minds that are not of the same type, are themselves. The cause of phlegm disease is phlegm, and that which does not harm it is sweetness, etc. The cause of the arising of afflictions is also that, and the view of the perishable aggregate is also, but it is not harmful; thus, connect the words. If loving-kindness, etc., are not the antidote to desire, etc., then how does the sutra say: "Monks, for example, sesame oil for wind is a great medicine, similarly, impurity for desire; for example, ghee for bile is a great medicine, similarly, loving-kindness for hatred; for example, honey is a great medicine, similarly, examining dependent origination for ignorance?" Therefore, having mentioned wind and bile, etc., it is said with consideration for loving-kindness, etc., that focus on the Dharma. The word "etc." includes loving-kindness, etc., without an object of focus. Those are the aspects of entering into selflessness, therefore they are completely on the side of the antidote. Similarly, for others as well, at what time are the thoughts of mother and sister, etc., said to be the antidote to desire, etc.? For that, it is also beneficial during that time.
