Gathering the actions, one should combine this with reality, saying that one does not think that there is no difference between appearances and things to be examined separately. The opponent said, "If," and so on, that if one follows the thinker's thought in order to establish a generality on external objects, then the exclusion of others should not become a generality either. Why? He said, "Thus," and so on, that if it is said that for those who apply names, sound expresses the exclusion of others, then such a recognition does not exist. If so, the teacher also said, "Thus," and so on, in order to show that the fault is the same, and what is called "not recognizing thus" is the nature of excluding others. How you think the general appears, and the forms of difference, etc., are also not recognized in this way. According to the Vaiseṣika, the general is different from the substratum. According to the Sāṃkhya, it is non-different. The word "etc." includes the complete perfection of each, etc. If there is no difference in recognition between the general as a real entity and the exclusion of others, then why does the name only express the exclusion of others? He said, "Having non-different forms of wisdom," and so on, because the exclusion of others is the separation of one's own characteristics, etc., from dissimilar classes, so it is only said to be the reason for having non-different forms of wisdom. Why? Because the exclusion of others, which has the characteristic of being separated from dissimilar classes, also exists for all different things; and, moreover, such exclusion of others, as the cause of general wisdom, is not contradictory, for example, just as seeing one tree as different from a non-tree, others are also the same, therefore, a similar wisdom arises for it, and there is no damaging valid cognition for this. The third reason, he also said, "The name that relies on sound," and so on, "Because it appears thus" means that it appears as having the cause of excluding others, this is after completely abandoning things that are different from it. It will also show "Entering transformation, sound is also spoken," and so on. "This" refers to the wisdom of conceptual thought. "How" refers to

It is like appearing as the same kind of thing. Therefore, literally speaking, the external universal does not exist. Therefore, I think that the universal, which is the basis of conceptual views, is not really existent. To prove that the universal does not exist, it is mentioned "like this" and so on. The self-nature of what appears does not change or become confused. This clearly shows that it is admitting that the universal is not other. In order to clearly distinguish the other, it is mentioned "following others" and so on. Those who want the nature of the universal to follow other things, apart from those differences, will not appear in the manifest consciousness. The so-called non-following is non-confusion. If they follow each other, then they will become one, and there will be no difference. Therefore, because the universal itself will become non-existent, if the knowledge of similar differences is the cause of the same kind of thing, then if it has no difference, it will become non-existent. The so-called "from those" refers to from the manifest things. The explanation of this "other" is "otherness." The so-called "in that kind of consciousness" refers to in the manifest consciousness. As people say, in the period after the experience, due to the influence of illusion, the conceptual consciousness seems to be the same kind of thing. Although it changes accordingly, things are not established because it is not valid. Because the concept is not valid, it would be absurd if things were established because of it. This is to explain that the nature is not apprehended in order to establish the term that the universal is not the characteristic of the object. It is not acceptable that the universal is not the characteristic of the object, because if the universal does not appear, then how to hold others with self-nature, the self-nature of the universal, or how to apply the term of others with self-nature, should be understood in conjunction with the context. In short, people want to generate knowledge and speech about manifest things through the power of the universal. Therefore, the universal is the characteristic of the object.
